"All done!" Alexis, Kristen, and Elizabeth all say in unison.
They put me in a dress, with a tight, black top with long sleeves, and a loose, frilly skirt with a flower pattern. To match, I'm wearing a pair of black, velvet heels. And of course, I'm wearing the apple necklace given to me by Alkai. I haven't taken it off yet.
It took them a while to fix my makeup because of the whole crying session I just had.
And the whole time they were getting me ready, they were saying things like:
"He's a sweetheart!"
"I love him!"
"Can I get one?"
"Be careful! you don't want to get punished!"
And the whole time, I was saying that we just were friends.
My maids open the door and Neveni is waiting outside of it.
"You ready? Man, your maids cleaned you up nicely!" he says to me.
"Shut up!" I say and shove him playfully.
We meet in the foyer and he leaves me, taking his place is Lindsey.
"Hi!"
"Hello!"
"Did you remember to practice with the books?"
I should be freaking out, but I'm not, because I DID practice, which is good.
"Yes, I did. Hopefully I do it right next time."
We walk to the dining room. Inside, it looks more fall-y than ever before. There are fake leaves and orange christmas lights everywhere. And all around, are apples!
I smile, and make eye contact with Alkai. He looks directly at my necklace and winks, then turns away.
"Ok everyone, sit down." says the Queen.
We all sit down in our normal spots. Except left of me, theres no one there. Where's Alkai? I glance around the room, and see that he's sitting with Rhyliegh. My heart deflates. She catches my gaze and gives me a face as if to say ha. Throughout the dinner, he and Rhyliegh laugh and talk about a bunch of things, while I stare at my plate, messing with my food and trying to keep the tears from falling.
After dinner, we are supposed to have classes, but sneak off, away from the group, and to the door that Alkai and I took to the apple orchard. There aren't any guards there, so I rush through the door. Once outside, I take off, running as fast as my legs will let me. The sky is cloudy, and I feel the rain coming, but I don't care. I follow the path through all the plants and flowers and trees. Through the woods and into the orchard. By now, it's raining, but I don't care. I sit by the tree that I sat with Alkai at on our date, all the way in the back. I let my tears mix with the rain, as it starts getting worse. It's muddy all around me, but I lay down and cry. I don't care that I'm muddy, I just wish the pain would go away. I've never know heartbreak, until now. After what feels like forever, I get up and start walking back.
I don't see the root where it was, and trip falling hardcore into a big mud puddle. I yelp in pain, knowing that I just broke some part in my body. Stupid clumsy me. Getting up, I limp through the woods, or halfway through it, and realize, I can't walk all the way back. Something in my foot hurts really bad, because I lost my shoes on the way to the orchard. I take a break, then get up and keep walking. I'm at the end of the tree orchard, when I see a figure looming up ahead, walking towards me. I stand as still as a stone.
The figure gets closer and closer, until I can make out it's features.
It's Alkai.
"Foster!" he says, "There you are! I've been worried sick!"
I try to walk towards him, forgetting about how upset I was with him, and forgetting about my foot. I take a step and fall to the ground.
"Are you okay?!? You're covered in mud!"
"I'm fine," I say as he helps me up.
We start walking, him trying to start conversation, and me trying to ignore him, and keep up, while I'm limping.
Finally he stops.
"Why aren't you talking to me?" he says, clearly annoyed and worried.
"No reason." I say keeping it short.
"No reason! So you're saying you came out here without telling anyone, and with no guard, crying, because, yes it looks like you were crying, outside in the rain, for no reason?"
"I haven't had a good day, ok?"
"No, not ok! Wait," he says, seeing my face, "are you jealous?"
"Why would I be jealous!" I snap back.
"Oh, you're jealous all right!"
"Am not!" I yell at him.
"Are too!" he yells back.
Then, suddenly, he's kissing me, and I'm ok with it.
So, we stand there in the rain kissing, when finally, he stops.
"You were jealous." he states, calmly.
"Maybe I was." I say and start limping away.
That's when he notices I'm limping.
"You're hurt!" he says.
"Yeah, I fell i n the mud and did something to my foot, but I'm fine" I say and keep walking.
"Oh no you're not!" He says, and picks me up, "Let's get back to the palace."
