Chapter 40 - The Conference

We go inside the auditorium. Sebastian heads to the platform and shakes hands with the others lecturers, and I seek a seat in the last row of the room. I prefer to be discreet and observe in this very first moment. I want to know where I am.

I can see Sebastian observing me with his fierce amber eyes. I also can see Professor Igor Bolshoyev's face glowing in seeing me here while they two are chit-chatting and Sebastian points at me with his eyes. Yeah. I'm sure they're talking about me.

In no time, the auditorium is fully packed. I couldn't expect it'd be otherwise as the two best mythologists of nowadays are speaking. It'll be a heated discussion. Vampire versus werewolf talking about Vampirology. I know how Sebastian hates vampires and his articles are fierce in alerting people about these bloodthirsty creatures while the articles of Professor Bolshoyev are always light regarding the subject. Although they always can say that everything is only for literary purposes and that myths are just myths...

Sebastian and Igor take their seats on their chairs on the platform. The third lecturer is a Professor from the local university that is promoting the Conference. He'll be more like an intermediary in the debate. And as Professor Bolshoyev, he's also a vampire.

I'm observing the audience. It seems that it's mostly composed of supernatural creatures and human with special gifts. Is it a must being a myth, a legend or a folklore creature to be in the Myths & Legends field? It seems that the answer is yes, although I think it's only a coincidence.

I'm happy that I'm not the only woman in the auditorium, there are other two. Three roses in the sea of testosterone, as Professor Marcos Javier said. I chuckle remembering that two comical creatures and Sebastian's jealousy.

The unknown vampire Professor grabs the microphone. The Conference is about to start. Silence takes over the audience.

John: Good morning, ladies and gentlemen! I'm John Smith III, and it's my pleasure to be here in this morning with two of the best mythologists of nowadays, Dr. Igor Bolshoyev and Dr. Sebastian Jones.

The crowd claps. They seem very enthusiastic to hear what these two men have to teach them.

John: During these two days of debates, we're going to study vampires thoroughly. We're going to dissect all aspects of the myth of vampire, absolutely everything related to them.

The local Professor continues in his introduction, and I'm observing the audience with fierce eyes. There are some vampires, but I can't find any druid in the auditorium. And I should say that I feel relieved. I'm not in the mood to talk to druids today.

I always was a good observer, but I've learned with Sebastian to give some attention to some details that, before, I've ignored. It seems that I'm becoming a big bad wolf too. And I've learned it observing Sebastian. He didn't teach me what details I should go for.

The two men that interrupted my breakfast with my werewolf are sitting in the middle of the auditorium. It's easy to find these comical figures because they're the only ones in Indiana Jones' costume. I can see their hats from far. Although Dr. Lars Petersen is a middle-aged man, he's very handsome and charming, like any Elf. This explains the jealousy of Sebastian.

Dr. Marcos Javier is a Mohan... What's that? I've never heard about it. I'll ask Sebastian later on. It seems I have too much to learn about Myths & Legends with my fierce amber eyes Professor.

All the audience is in silence. They're paying close attention to the words of Professor John Smith III. He continues in his introduction to the debates, and he's explaining the rules. For the day one, Sebastian will expose his point of view, and Igor will rebate, and Sebastian will reply back. In the second day, it'll be the opposite: Igor will present his point of view and Sebastian will rebate, and Igor will answer back. In both days, the audience can make some questions if they need to be enlightened on some points.
