"i'm sorry. i make such a big deal out of everything." i spoke into the phone, knowing all too well that the nurse was probably going to come in and remind me that i have to get to sleep soon.

"no, you don't," jaemin assured me on the other end of the line. "you have every right to be upset. don't worry."

i didn't really know how to respond to that, but luckily for me, he kept talking.

"besides, if anyone made a big deal out of things, it's haechan."

i could hear him let out a sarcastic chuckle, and i furrowed my eyebrows. "what are you talking about?"

"well," he spoke as if he was hesitant to explain. "after we left, apparently he got a little.. mad. renjun told me everything."

"shit," i whispered, sighing. "what'd he say?"

"he basically told jeno that he was an asshole for breaking your heart, and jeno got really upset because he had no idea you felt that way. either way, it was a whole mess. everyone was really shocked."

i didn't know what to say.

part of me wanted to be really mad at haechan for starting something, but he was only looking out for me. regardless, jeno didn't deserve that.

"i-i'm gonna go," i said quietly, fiddling with my fingers out of nervousness. "the nurse is probably gonna scold me soon."

"oh, okay." jaemin sighed. "call me if you need anything, okay? sleep well."

i thanked him and hung up. even though i was grateful for his kind words, i knew that i probably wouldn't sleep very well tonight.
