The following morning, Dani woke up early to shower and get ready for her first day as a librarian. Would it be cliche of her to bring her own book to read? She laughed at herself and ultimately decided she would bring The Fault In Our Stars to read, since it was less embarrassing than being caught reading 50 Shades of Grey in public, as well as being caught reading it at work. Moreover, she still needed to finish reading it for the thirteenth time.

Dani showered quickly and once she got out, she picked out an outfit to wear since she didn't have to choose from a limited uniform anymore. She ended up choosing a black pair of relaxed fit dress pants and a dark green button up blouse. Her simple flats would do for today. She made sure to grab her book before leaving out the door.

On her way to the library, Dani realized she had a sufficient amount of time to stop and grab a small breakfast and a coffee. Lucky for her, across the street from the library is a Starbucks. Opting to walk in since the drive-thru was rather busy, she made her way inside and once she was at the counter, she began to order. A vanilla bean frappe and a bacon and Gouda breakfast sandwich was exactly what she was craving right now, so that's what she told the Starbucks employee. After ordering, Dani pulled her wallet out of her purse and swiped her card to pay for her food and drink. However, to Dani's surprise, the machine claimed Dani's card was declined.

"I'm sorry, Miss, but it seems your card has declined. Would you like me to try the transaction again?" The young barista asked quietly.

"Yes, please. I'm not sure why it would decline", Dani said nervously.

"That's okay, I can pay for her order", a gentleman standing in line behind Dani walked up and said.

"No, no that's very nice of you, but you don't have to do that", Dani flushed a bright pink color.

"It's really not a problem, don't sweat it", the man with the jet black hair and piercingly hazel eyes said. "Besides, you obviously have good taste with literature. Now if you were reading something like Twilight, there's no way I would be doing this right now." He glanced down at Dani's book that was poking out of her purse.

Dani laughed, "Well not everyone is at talented as John Greene."

"I'm glad somebody else agrees with me on that", the man smiled at her. Dani was wondering if he was flirting with her, she was never the greatest at being able to decipher that.

"I appreciate you paying for my order, if you're ever in the need of a book go to that library across the street and I will hook you up with some quality literature", Dani said shyly, "But I do actually have to get over there for my shift right now, but thank you again!"

"It was my pleasure!" The man said as Dani grabbed her order and made her way out of the building.

Dani clocked in for her shift just in time. Helen was just a few feet away, organizing a shelf of children's books.

"Good morning!" Dani chirped happily.

"Good morning, Dani. I have a few tasks for you to do today", the woman smiled warmly. "First, I'll need you to sort through all of the books that were returned in the last few days. Second, you'll need to give everyone on that list over there a call, they are overdue with a book and either need to pay for the book or bring it back. And lastly, the adult section needs to be reorganized."

"Sounds great! I'll get started right away", Dani said.

Dani began working quickly, she was able to go through all of the returned books within an hour and a half, as well as putting them back on the shelves. Next, she found the paper that contained the list of people she was supposed to call in regards to the overdue books. The first person listed was Irene Philips, so Dani dialed her phone number and waited patiently while it dialed. It rang for awhile and ended up going to voicemail, so Dani left a short message letting Irene know that her book was overdue.

The second person on the list was someone named Alex Castel. She dialed the phone number, but this time it only rang once before Dani heard another voice on the other end of the call.

"Hello?" Alex asked curiously.

"Hi, is this Alex?" Dani questioned.

"Yes it is, may I ask who is calling?" Dani felt like she had heard this voice before, but she couldn't put her finger on when she had heard it or where she recognized the voice from.

"My name is Dani and I was just calling in regards to a book that you have checked out at your local library, Looking For Alaska. It is overdue so you will either need to return the book or pay for it."

"I'm actually not far from the library so is it okay if I come in now to return it?" Alex asked.

"That would be perfect. We will see you then!" Dani felt a sense of accomplishment. She looked down at the list, only 298 more people to go. Well, this is certainly going to take forever, Dani thought to herself. She began calling each and every person listed, most of the time being sent to voicemail and having to leave a message.

Several minutes later, Dani heard the chime of the little bell on the door, signaling that someone was entering the building. She quickly recognized the bright hazel eyes as the man who paid for her breakfast this morning.

"Hey again", she greeted him. "How can I help you?"

"It's Alex, you just called me saying I needed to return this book, right?" He laughed slightly. Dani now realized why she had thought his voice had sounded familiar over the phone.

"Oh yes, I'm sorry I didn't realize that was you on the phone", Dani giggled nervously.

"Well, I figured it probably is about time I bring this back, I've only read it about twenty times", Alex said, handing the book over to Dani.

"I see we really do have a common interest with John Greene", Dani laughed "But I'm still reading The Fault In Our Stars for the thirteenth time."

"Only the thirteenth? That's beginner stuff!" Alex teased her.

"I would have been done and had read it a few more times, but I ended up reading a different book, one my boyfriend bought for me, for the first time while reading this one, so I've been trying to balance out how much I read both of them", Dani said.

"I'm sure the other book is nothing compared to this one", Alex said with a cocky smirk.
