Before the weekend arrived, Dani finally heard from Justin. However, it wasn't quite what she wanted to hear, he had simply texted that he was sorry he had been distant this week and that he was going to spend the weekend with his mom. Dani was actually feeling pretty angry with Justin at this point, she thought the least he could do was talk to her or tell her how he was feeling. She didn't even bother to reply back to his text message, even though her petty inner conscience really just wanted to text back "K".
The weekend dragged by for Dani, she cleaned around the house and spent some time with Shannon. Dani noticed that Shannon was definitely started to show changes to herself from being in an actual relationship. She didn't yell "Booooo!" at the television every time a lovey-dovey couple would be on the screen, and she even started talking to Dani about the future. In terms of kids and a family, Shannon had never showed any interest in it period. Apparently being with Aaron had caused Shannon to have a change of heart, she seemed very open to the idea of marriage and having a family someday as long as she still "got plenty of dick" as she so graciously put it. But to be fair, it was still Shannon they were talking about and some things will just never change about her.
Dani felt really thankful to have Shannon in her life. She was lucky to have such a great, loyal best friend. Ultimately, Shannon left after a few hours and went to spend the rest of the weekend with her boyfriend, leaving Dani by her lonesome. Dani refused to be pathetic and simply mope around her house though. She ran to something that would always be a constant in her life and would never leave her feeling abandoned, and that was her books. She let herself be consumed by the romantic soothing novel, reading as her favorite couple, Augustus and Hazel, fell in love. However, Dani knew how this book ended and she refused to read on. She couldn't take the heart break on top of all the feelings Justin was causing her to have as of recent.
Once Monday rolled around, Dani dragged herself to work. Around lunch time, she could faintly hear her vibrating from within her jeans pocket. Her heart beat picked up to a very quick and rapid speed. She practically yanked her cell phone out of her pocket, but to her utter dismay, Shannon's name was all she saw.
"Hello?" Dani forced out.
"Hey! Do you wanna go to dinner tonight? Maybe some double date action?" Shannon asked cheerily.
"I'm not sure, Shan." Dani sighed.
"Is everything okay?"
"Everything is fine. I just haven't talked to Justin since last week."
"That's odd." Shannon replied, "I'll talk to Aaron, maybe he's talked to him."
"Thank you."
"Of course, and hey I love you girl. I hope you know that." Geez, Shannon was becoming so cheesy and mushy, Dani thought to herself.
"I love you too."
Back at home later that day after work, Dani was just getting out of the bath. She had managed to read a few chapters from 50 Shades of Grey. As she was drying herself off in her room, Dani heard a knock coming from her apartment door. She froze. Could it be Justin, she wondered. She made her way over to the door and went to look through the peep hole, but she couldn't see anything other than a bouquet of flowers.
Opening the door, she could see that there was a person holding the bouquet of flowers, the same flowers she had received at her door step twice now. The flowers were hiding the person's face standing in front of her, but she could tell it was certainly a man standing in front of her. The man lowered the flowers and spoke.
"Hey Dan-Dan."
"Kyle?" Dani was confused. What could he be doing here?
"Surprise!" He had a huge smile on his face.
"What are you doing here?"
"I miss you", he spoke earnestly. Dani recognized his words from the note-card that was left with the last bouquet of flowers. She couldn't believe Kyle had been the one sending her flowers, she felt even more stupid for thinking it had been Justin in the first place.
Dani didn't know what to say, it felt like she stood there for an eternity before she finally replied. "Have you been sending me flowers?"
"Well of course it was me, I knew you would know it was me because who else would it be?" Kyle laughed. "I even got your favorite, sunflowers."
Dani was surprised Kyle even remembered her favorite flower, or had even known it in the first place really. Dani was perplexed with the situation, but Kyle offered the flowers to her and took them from him, hesitantly.
"Um, would you like to come in?" Dani offered. Kyle nodded and followed Dani through the doorway.
"Your place looks wonderful, I see you kept the paintings I gave you. They definitely did this place some good. It was so bland and boring before." Kyle spoke as he wandered over to the couch and took a seat, immediately making himself at home in Dani's apartment. He was wearing dark denim jeans and a deep maroon button-up shirt, which was more effort than he usually put into his outfits from what Dani could recall. She couldn't help but think about how Justin looked a million times better than him by just wearing at shirt and a pair of worn jeans.
"And you, you look great Dan-Dan!" Kyle exclaimed, "I can tell you've lost some weight."
Dani would have been offended if any one else had said these things to her, but that was Kyle and just the way he spoke. She was used to it and nothing he said ever really surprised her at this point.
"Thank you", Dani replied. She returned Kyle's smile, but it didn't quite reach her eyes. "So really, why are you here? And why have you been sending me flowers?"
"Like I said, I miss you. I think I want you back."
There was a knock at Dani's door once again, she stood up to get the door. However, Kyle leaped up and swiftly walked over to the door, swinging it open confidently as if this was his apartment.
"Who the fuck are you?" Dani could hear Justin slur out.
"Who the fuck am I? Who the fuck are you? AA meeting is on the bottom floor, jack-ass." Kyle slammed the door shut.
Dani jumped up from the couch and ran to her door, surging through it and not even glancing Kyle's way. "Justin, wait!"
Justin was only a few steps down the hall, he looked to be almost falling over. Dani caught him as he was about to get very acquainted with carpeting of the hallway. "Are you drunk?"
"You're cheating on me", Justin slurred out, "You're just like her." Justin was sobbing at this point so Dani leaned his body up against the wall and let him slide down to a seated position on the floor.
"I'm not cheating on you", Dani spoke gently.
"You're not?" Justin perked up. "Thank God! You're not like her at all, you're good. You're so good Baby. So so goo-", Justin didn't finish his sentence. He had fallen asleep, or passed out, Dani hadn't decided which yet. Dani wanted to know who this woman was that he spoke of. Justin never brought up his past relationships before, nor had he ever mentioned being cheated on. Dani made a mental note to ask him all these questions that were swirling around in her head as soon as he was sober and coherent.
