Don't be afraid of losing someone who doesn't feel lucky to have you.
"I've told you Yugyeom, people have been following me. First that guy outside the other day, then the one who came around the house and then another one tonight." I sighed. "We need to get ahead of this. Arrange a meeting with Jungkook, maybe if you talk to him-" He cut over me, his tone cruel.
"Maybe what?! Maybe we could work something out and play happy little fucking family? As if it were ever that simple..." He growled. "Jungkook is Dad's golden boy. He always has been and he always will be. You'd think the sun shone out of his arse..."
"But that doesn't stop you and Jungkook having a relationship. The only thing that could come between the pair of you is jealousy-"
"You think I'm jealous of him?" He stormed, his voice bouncing off every wall. I shook my head, well aware that any sort of resolution was a long way away. I turned my back but Yugyeom was quickly upon me, spinning me around to face him. "Don't you dare turn your back on me."
"Why do you care?" I asked him, starting to become numb in the soaking wet clothes that I had stood in for far too long. "In four days time, I will be sold to the highest bidder to settle a debt that isn't even mine. So excuse me, if I want to exert my free will while I can..."
"Stop talking like that!" His eyes were foreign on his face, the only softness amongst his hardened features.
"I'm cold and I'm tired Yugyeom. We'll talk in the morning." I pulled myself away from him, the sound of him smashing the living room following me as I left.
The next morning I headed out early, making my way to the cafe around the block not quite ready to deal with Yugyeom. I needed to clear my head, I needed some time to just enjoy the fresh air.
"Is anyone sitting here?" A voice broke through the silence. I looked up over my coffee, catching the stranger's eye.
"I don't have any money. I don't have any worthwhile possessions. And I'm quickly running out of patience." I sighed, resting my head on my hands.
"I'm actually here to see if you're alright." He spoke so softly, my heart began to hammer against my chest. I turned back to my coffee.
"Is it really any of your concern?" I asked as he pulled back a chair, sitting opposite me. I went to stand but he reached out, holding onto my cup.
"This guard you have up - did it come before or after he started hitting you?" He asked bluntly. I collapsed back into my seat.
"It's not something that I'm likely to discuss with strangers." He smiled, brushing his hair out of his eyes.
"I'm Tae." My eyes narrowed, watching him carefully. He just continued to smile.
"What's your game, Tae? Why are you doing this?"
"Jungkook sent me."
"Why? And the guy before you? And the two before him?" I asked.
"We're all skilled in different areas. It's all part of the strategy." He admitted as the waiter placed his drink down before him. He gripped it between his hands for warmth. "You'll have met Yoongi first. He has the arrogance to unsettle people. He's so blasé and unfaltering. Sometimes people break just from speaking with him." Tae counted off his fingers. "Jimin comes next. He expands on Yoongi's threats, he makes it all seem real and like it's just about to happen. He puts the debtors under pressure, makes them squirm." I shuffled in my chair, he'd definitely succeeded with me. "Then Hoseok will corner the debtor when they're most vulnerable and try and strike some sort of payment plan."
