Becoming a better person shouldn't involve change, it should involve growth
After dinner, my Dad and Uncle had retired to their rooms, stuffed from their first proper meal in a long time. I decided to make a quick call to Daesung now that I was alone. After a brief conversation, I told him that I loved him and wished him goodnight before hanging up. My mind wandered to the business card that Taehyung had given me earlier. Deciding that there was no harm in it, I fished it out of my purse, dialing the number into my phone and staring at it for a few seconds before I pressed call. I breathed deeply as I waited for someone to answer the dial tone.
"Hello?" Taehyung's voice spoke.
"Hi Tae, it's me."
"You called!"
"What can I say? I needed a friend." I laughed, curling my legs up under myself as I got comfortable on the sofa.
"Why? What's up?" He asked as I bit my lip, debating whether to tell him about Yugyeom. I eventually decided why not.
"I went to the supermarket earlier and Yugyeom was there." Taehyung inhaled lightly, regaining himself before he started to speak once more.
"Did he see you?" He asked.
"No, I don't think so. Thank God. It's lucky that I'm leaving soon. Knowing my luck, I'd chance to bump into him again." I laughed, Taehyung tutted.
"Leaving soon? What do you mean? You only just got here?"
"Tae, I only came to visit my Father. I have commitments." Taehyung inhaled sharply, his breath halting at my words.
"You've moved on haven't you? You're in a relationship..." He pieced together. I went silent for a moment, not sure how to respond.
"Tae, I have a relationship in Japan. It's important to me."
"I'm happy for you, Y/N. But -" He paused as though weighing up what he was about to say. "If it's not too much to ask...would you mind, maybe - you don't have to say yes...speaking to Jungkook?"
"Tae, I can't." My heart was in my throat, my nerves in bits. "I can't see him again. It's too much, for both of us."
"You don't understand, Y/N. He's never been the same since." A pain ripped through me and I couldn't not ask for more information.
"What do you mean?" I spoke quickly. "What's wrong with him?" I held the phone tight to my ear.
"When you left Y/N, you broke his heart and he's never managed to fix it." My breathing had slowed, my own heart pounding. "He sleeps around. He won't let anyone in. He throws himself 200% into his work."
"And what about his Father? Yugyeom? Did he ever manage to make amends?" I asked, quietly.
"They're on decent terms and they see one another when they have too."
"He has all he needs Taehyung. I can't come between them again." I insisted.
"Even just to reassure him that you're okay Y/N. Just to tell him that he can't keep going on the way that he has been..." Tae pleaded.
"Taehyung, I-"
"Please. You know I wouldn't be asking if I wasn't desperate."
"Tae-"
"He won't listen to me. He won't listen to reason."
"I'll think about it Taehyung, okay? That's the best I can do. But I'm not planning on staying long. I have - commitments."
