~Two Suffering Souls~ [Clouis Fan Fiction]

Chapter 16

The four of us walk up the steps, hoping they'd be a generous group. A group that could actually help us. "We need to take our chances," I mutter under my breath. I knock on the wooden door and take a step back. Suddenly, the door swings open. A guy with dark brown hair, answers the door. He was about a couple years older than me, still young to be in an apocalypse of walkers. He has light skin, wearing a warm jacket with worn out boots. "What brings you guys here?" He says directed to us. He seemed like a friendly fellow, nice enough to answer the door that is. "We need food and shelter. We've been walking for days," I say to him. "Where'd Y'all originally come from?" He demands. "I was originally from Georgia. Been a long time since then." I look at AJ, as he starts to take hold of his injury. "What's wrong with the kid?" He questions. "He was shot. Some asshole raider got him," I explain to him. I see him frown, and say "Does it need cleaning?" Louis jumps in the conversation saying "Sure does. Can we just stay for a few days? We need the break." The guy smiles, then says "Sure, my names Daniel. Dan for short."
He allows us to come in, as Tenn takes care of AJ. I look around the place and notice they've got quite a good set up. As he lets us pounder around the house, he says "You may have noticed the others outside. They usually chill out there. Guess you snuck right past them." He looks at me, with a tiny smile. Louis gives Daniel a dirty look, as I grin. I reach for Louis' hand, to make sure he's comforted. "I can look after the kids for you if you want. I'll introduce you to the others, then clean up your kid." I stop in my tracks and say "AJ's not my kid. He's my best friend. I take care of him." Daniel looks back, with a guilty face. "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to come across rude or anything." I respond with "It's fine, don't sweat it. It's just weird when people call me his mom." "Got it," he says back.
The five of us continue to walk around the school, slowly making our way out front to the others. "So what're your guys' names?" He wonders. "My names Clementine. That's AJ and Tenn." Tenn hides behind AJ, as AJ waves his hand to Daniel. "I'm Louis," Louis simply says. "Cool, nice to meet you guys." Daniel opens the door open , as Louis asks "Does the rest of your group, want to play a card game?" Daniel gives an odd look towards Louis and says "Can't remember the last time I played one. Do you have cards with you?" Louis smirks, as he reaches into his pocket to show them off. "I'll introduce you to everyone else. I might take off, to clean up AJ," Daniel says. "Thanks, I appreciate it," I allege.
"Everyone gather around. We've got a few new members." Daniel says to everyone. Everyone stops their conversations, and huddles around us. "This is Clem, Louis, Tenn, and AJ. Try and make friends with them, while I go back inside with AJ. I need to clean him up." Everyone smiles and seems quite friendly.
Daniel takes off into the house with AJ, as Tenn follows along with them. "Anyone down for a card game?" Louis asks in an overjoyed voice. "Sure I'm down," the majority of everyone says.
Everyone sits in a circle. "What card game are we gonna play?" A girl asks. She has short brown hair, with blue eyes. She wears a thin black sweater, which isn't the smartest choice of fashion. Louis looks at me, leaving me with the decision. "A simple game called war. Everyone flips a card. Highest card wins. Lowest card loses." Everyone looks at me, thinking how easy it is. "Simple enough," someone else says. I look over at him and see what he looks like. Dirty blond hair, with brown eyes. Quite tan, probably from being outside so much. "To make things interesting, the winner asks the loser a question," Louis says. "Sounds fun. By the way, my names Ryan," the girl in the black sweater says.
Everyone picks a card from the deck. I receive a three. The kid with the blonde hair receives a King. He gives me a creepy grin and says "My names Hayden. Anyway, if you had to fuck one of us in the group, who would it be?" A guy speaks up from the group and says "You fucking dick. Way to ruin the game already." Hayden responds with "Fuck off, Ashton. She doesn't have to respond if she doesn't want to." Louis sits uncomfortably, giving Hayden a weird look. I decide to say "Well, I'm dating Louis. I wouldn't fuck him but if-" Hayden quickly cuts me off and says "So you wanna fuck him, is that it?" Another girl from the group, steps in. She says "Hayden, you are such a weirdo. Just leave the poor girl alone, for God's sake." Hayden answers back with "Shut up, Jocelyn. You were always so annoying." Louis and I sit uncomfortably, as he then shuffles the deck.
I receive a Queen, and Ashton receives a two. I look at him, noticing he has dark black hair. He has a scar on his face, with dark bags underneath his eyes. "Ashton, where'd you get that scar from?" I ask him. He hesitates at first, then says " A bullet skimmed my face, from raiders. They attacked a while ago. They aren't an issue anymore." I hear him mutter something under his breath. As if he said, "If only she knew." I shake it off, as Louis says "Alright, let's move onto round three!"
Ryan receives a Jack, which was the highest card of the round. The loser was Louis. "Do your worst," Louis says to Ryan in a teasing voice. "Alright, why do you like Clem? Give us all the juicy details." Louis looks at me, then blushes. His creamy brown eyes dart back towards my direction, as he prepares himself for embarrassment. "Well, because she's sweet. She cares about others, and is feisty. She's always there for me, and helps me out." Hayden rolls his eyes, as Ryan smiles. "Cute," Ryan simply says.
The final cards are dealt out.
Ashton receives a ten, which was the highest card out of the six of us. I, of course, get a three which was the lowered card. "Have you ever had to deal with raiders?" Ashton says in a low dried out voice. Jocelyn mumbles to him "Stop talking about raiders! She'll catch on!" I give a strange look to Jocelyn. I then continue my thought. I say "Many times. I lost a lot of friends fighting them off. Almost died doing so." I see Louis sigh, as he remembers what happened to Mitch. "Think I'm done for the night," Ryan says. "Cool game. Hope to see you guys around," Jocelyn adds on.
Everyone takes off into the house, as Louis and I are left alone together. "I don't like that Hayden kid. He seems like a fucking weirdo," Louis says. I nod my head, in agreement. I respond with "I think we should leave in a couple days. Get some food from them, then get out. Peacefully of course."
I lay my head on Louis' shoulder, as I feel my body melt in warmth. He always made me feel happy. No matter what circumstances. We look at the stars, feeling peaceful for the first time. "The stars are almost as beautiful as you," Louis says. I feel my cheeks go red, as I feel flattered. "You are the cutest person I have ever met."
Ruining the moment, Daniel comes out the front door. By his side is AJ and Tenn. "I cleaned AJ's wound. You're welcome to stay the night here. Maybe stay few weeks, if you want," Daniel says with a cheerful smile. I get up and say "Thanks, it means a lot. I'm glad he's alright." Daniel replies with "Yeah, he's one tough kid. We can find a bedroom for you guys, if you want." Louis answers back with "Yeah, that'd be great."
We all head off into the nice wooden house. Louis and I make our way upstairs, as Ashton quickly pulls me to the side. He gives me a scared look and says "Clem, it isn't safe here. Dan, he's a terrible person. He makes raides from other innocent groups." I give Ashton a shocked look, as Louis ponders upstairs at the bedrooms. "Do you mean, he kills innocent people for food, safety, protection, and so on?" He nods his head in fear. "He's threatened to kill us numerous times. You need to escape tomorrow. All of us do." I stand there in fear, as Ashton then says "That's why we've been attacked by other raiders. I can help you and Louis espace. Those other kids as well."
I stand in fear. I see the horror in Ashton's eyes. I knew this place had a terrible gut feeling.
I just need to protect Louis, AJ and Tenn. Those are all the people I care about. They're all I have left. I won't lose them now.
