AJ and Tenn walk in front of us, as Louis and I have a nice little conversation. To start it off, I say "Hey Louis, I've noticed you're not acting yourself. Is something up?" He nods his head and says "Everyone's who's died, just sits with me terribly. It feels like it's all my fault. Marlon, Omar, Willy, Mitch, Ruby, and possibly Aasim, are all gone. Just like that." I put my arm around his shoulder and say, "It's not your fault, Louis. I know they were like family to you. We can get through this together, I promise." He smiles, and says "Thanks Clem, for putting up with my bullshit. You've always been there for me, and I appreciate it." A tingle shivers down my back, as I hear what he says. A smile slides up my face, as I respond with "You've had to deal with me crying and panicking all the time. Thanks for sticking around and helping me out." He grins, as his chocolate-like eyes sparkle.
Seven hours later, everyone in the group seems to be exhausted. AJ seems to be hurting, as he grips onto his bullet wound. Tenn seems worn out, as he yawns every other minute. l say to Louis "Maybe we should have a fire? Everyone seems tired, and needs a rest." Louis nods his head, as I grab AJ's attention. "AJ, we're going to have a fire. You need to rest up, then we'll start walking again." AJ replies back with, "We can't stop for me, Clem! We need to keep going." I let out a sigh, and say "AJ, I need to make sure you're alright. Pushing yourself too much can hurt you. We all need to rest anyway." "What about the people we're going to find? We need to keep going," AJ states. "We don't know when we'll stumble upon new people, AJ. It's a shot in the dark. Rest up, for now, then we'll find a community. I promise." Tenn waves AJ over, as a smile spreads across his face. AJ runs over, still putting pressure onto his injury.
Louis gathers wood for the fire, and asks me "You know how to make a fire, right? I'm pretty sure I'd end up burning the whole forest down." I let out a chuckle, and say "Yup. My good friend Kenny taught me how to." I reach into my pocket and feel for my lighter. I dig it out of my pocket, and hold it in my hand. "Let's get this fire started," I say to myself.
The four of us sit around the fire. AJ and Tenn continue to talk, never getting sick of each other's presences. "It's nice to have a fire, I must say," Louis says. I answer back with "Yeah, that's for sure. In about twenty minutes, we should get back to walking through. The sooner we find a group, the better the AJ will be." "Yup, sounds like a good plan," responds Louis.
I look at the flames from the fire, and feel myself start to become tired. "Mind if I sleep in your lap? Just for ten minutes. I'm just really exhausted," I ask Louis. "Why would I mind? You don't even have to ask," Louis says with a big smile on his face.
I lay in his lap, as I look at him. I see his perfect smile, and how beautiful his eyes are. His eyes are always my weak spot since I think about them so much. I drift off the sleep in his lap, feeling comfortable for once.
I wake up in Louis' arms, and question what's going on. "Why didn't you just wake me up, Louis?" I wonder. "I tried to, but you refused to wake up. So then, I decided to carry you." I don't know if I should be grateful for how sweet he is, or be concerned about how deep of a sleeper I am. "Well, thanks. Sorry, I'm so difficult to wake up." He replies back with "Nah don't worry about it. I find it cute in a way." My cheeks turn a hot pink, as I hear what he says. "How long have you been carrying me for?" I ask Louis. "For about a half an hour, at the latest," he says.
Louis plops me on the ground, as I see AJ and Tenn still walking up ahead. The four of us continue our walk, feeling a bit more energized from taking the break.
Two hours later, AJ and Tenn stop in their tracks. "Clem! It looks like a group of people standing in their front yard. We should check it out!" I ask myself  "Why the fuck would there be people outside of their homes? How weird." Louis says to me "We should check it out. We have nothing to lose. We need the food, and need to make sure AJ's alright." I agree, but feel like there's something off with this place. I have this gut feeling, this group has some secrets hidden inside of them. But, we need the food. We need the shelter. We need to take our chances. "You know whatever happens I'll have your back, right Louis?" He looks at me and says "I know you will. I'll always have yours as well." I grasp onto his hand, holding it tightly to my body. We make our way towards the entrance, prepared for what will happen next.
