The door to an old brick boarding house opened, a boy with unrulily blonde hair and an odd-shaped head stepped out. He adjusts his 'too small for his head' blue hat before he swings his backpack over his shoulder. Slowly, he made his way down the stoop to a waiting boy with tall curly hair. The two of them yawned as it was too early for either of them to be awake.

"Morning. One week left then it's summer break. The last one before High school!" Exclaimed the boy with hair almost as tall as his body.

"Morning Gerald." The blonde boy replied.

"Are you excited, Arnold? We are about to become high schoolers. " Gerald asked too excited for Arnold.

Both boys were making their way towards the bus stop when Arnold answered. "I am but not as much as you."

"How can you not be? I mean... we are two cool, good-looking guys. About to become adults." Gerald wiggled his eyebrows.

"Gerald. I don't know. We're still pretty young." Arnold rubbed the back of his neck, unsure where his friend's confidence was coming from.

It didn't take long for the two boys to make it to the bus stop. Normally they would have to stand there for a while waiting for the bus, but today they were lucky. Arriving only moments after they got there, the bus pulled up. Ready to take them to P.S. 118.

"Oh man. With that mentality, I feel so sorry for your girl." Gerald paid his share and found a seat up front.

Arnold could only shake his head in disbelief. Gerald never held back his opinions when it came to Arnold and his girlfriend. Then again, Gerald was only 1 of two people in school who even know about them. After paying his share, Arnold takes the seat next his friend to continue their conversation.

After a few moments, the bus pulled over to let on a couple of girls. One was a small Asian girl with half of her hair up in a bun and glasses. The second was a slightly taller girl with blonde pigtails and a pink bow. The blonde, at one time, had a monobrow. Luckily, when puberty hit, the one turned into two.

"Hello Gerald." The smaller of the two girls, smiled.

"Good morning, Phoebe. I know you're excited for high school, right?" Gerald asked, bringing the two girls into the conversation.

"Oh, very much so. I heard I can take pre-college classes." Phoebe didn't show much emotion, but those who knew her could tell she was excited.

The blonde girl, who was sitting with Phoebe, just laughed. "Leave it to you, Pheebs, to get excited only for more homework."

"Well Helga, I'm only saying that I will be able to get into a better college if I can keep a perfect 5.0 average." Phoebe tried to explain her reasoning.

"That's my girl, always achieving the unachievable." Gerald winked at his girlfriend who giggled in reply.

"Oh, come on, it's too early to watch you to play kissy face from across the aisle." Helga made a disgusted face and turned to look out the window.

"Well, it wouldn't be so bad if you did it too, Helga." Gerald eyed her.

"With whom? You? Count me out." Helga only glanced at Gerald before returning her gaze to the window.

"Eww... No. Maybe to someone else? Someone, who you haven't even said good morning to, yet?" Gerald motioned with his eyes to the very quiet friend sitting next to him.

Helga didn't even reply. She just kept looking out the window in anticipation for the school to come into view. Gerald shrugged his shoulders while Phoebe just looked at Arnold, sympathetically. Arnold just smiled.
