"Do you think there are aliens out there?"
"What are you on about?" (¯∇¯٥)
"What does that look mean?" She said, pouting.
"Nothing!" I retorted back.
We were both lying down on the riverside, watching the night skies. It was a beautiful night, and all the stars shone brightly.
She turned to face me with that beautiful face of her that always seemed to be curious about everything. I loved that side of her, she always wanted to know about everything, including me. This had led to some fun ways for me to tease her. (─‿‿─)
"So, do you?" She asked again, focusing all her attention to me. "And don't change the subject!"
"Well," I hesitated for a moment. "It's not entirely impossible for there to be aliens, so yeah... I might believe their existence. Even if they do exist, I'll still proudly tell them that I have a beautiful angel as my girlfriend."
Cheesy, I know. Sue me.
"Shut up!" She said while sticking out her tongue at me. "Well, if there were aliens, I wonder what they would think of us. Would they be scared of us just like we probably are of them? Thinking that you're the only one who are out there, just to find out you're not, isn't that frightening in a way? Everyone loves the idea of there being someone else out there like them and thinks it's cool, but when that actually happens, they hate the sole fact that they're not special anymore. Isn't that selfish in a way?"
I lay there, mouth opened widely, awestruck from what she had just said.
"You truly are my little genius," I told her before giving her a kiss on the forehead. "You blow my mind everyday."
"Stop with the flirting," she said, though her smile told me otherwise. "Come on, it's getting cold, let's get back to the car."
"Sure," I said. I stood up and offered my hand for her. She took my hand, and I pulled her closely into a bear hug which turned into a kiss.
"Minty," she said. "Love it."
I blushed out of surprise. I was not expecting her to notice that. "Well, it's always cool to anticipate a kiss," I said," I said, trying to prevent her from realising that my face was bright red. Even in the dark, I think my face could light up the surroundings like a street lamp.
"Anything you say, mister," she said, winking at me. "Come on, chase me if you can!"
She ran ahead of me, and I couldn't decided which one I liked the most. Her serious side or her childish side. Anyways, I started to run, planning to hug her as soon as I caught up with her.
"Here I come!" I yelled.
As I ran, I slowly realised something. It didn't matter which side of her I liked the most, I just wanted to be with her no matter what. I wad reminded of what she had just said before, maybe humans aren't that selfish. Maybe the one thing we had been looking for all this time was just someone else who understand us and could make us feel so special. Maybe the thing that this world needs the most is actually the simplest thing, yet the hardest thing to do. Maybe we just needed each other to care. Maybe we just needed ourselves to care.
Anyways, that was only my take on life. For now, all I cared was for her to always have that precious smile on her face. I cared about her, and I cared about her happiness.
