"Morning, mom!"
"Oh, morning," my mom said to me, while she was busy cleaning up the house. "You've prepared everything?"
"Yep."
I was preparing to go to school, and I double-checked every thing that I needed. I packed them all into my bag, and headed out where dad's car was waiting for me.
"Love you," my mom called. It was something that she always say, it was like her habit to say that before I go to school.
"Love you too," I said with a smile. To be honest, I also said that as a habit, but I'd never truly stopped and actually thought about whether I meant it or not.
I entered dad's car, where he was already sitting on the driver's seat. "Hey, kiddo," he said. "All prepared for school?"
"Yes, dad," I said with an eyeroll.
---
I arrived at school, and waved my father goodbye. I met up with my friends and we talked about our weekend.
"I went like scuba diving with my family last Saturday, it was so much fun! How about you?"
It took me a while to realise I was the one being questioned, and I stuttered at first.
"Well, umm, I just stayed at home.. You know, quality time with... family."
The others listened, but then immediately continued to their own conversation.
Sometimes, I wondered what it would feel to have rich parents like my friend. I knew it was wrong, but I couldn't help compare my parents with others. I guessed I wasn't grateful enough.
I arrived at my class, and placed my bag down. I took up all my stuffs when...
I forgot my chemistry homework!
I ran as fast as I could to the parking lot, hoping my dad to still be there. When I arrived there, there wasn't only dad there. There was also my mom.
"You forgot your homework, sweetie," she said, while holding the chemistry homework in her hands. "Be less forgetful next time."
At that time, I realised I was being dumb. I didn't need any rich parents, I wad already good with the ones I had.
"Thanks, mom," I told her while hugging her tightly.
"I know."
