I met him in a grocery shop. Not exactly the most romantic place, but it will do. It was around ten at night, and I had no food in my flat, so I went out to buy some ramen. I was looking down the instant food aisle when I first saw him. He was wearing a dark hoodie, and his hair was really messy. He was comparing the price between two products, a hardship that me, as a fellow college student, knew all too well.
"That one tastes better, and it's a lot cheaper," I said, trying to start a conversation.
"Hm?" He looked up at me, and I swore my heart fluttered for a moment when our eyes met. "Oh, thanks. Do I know you?"
"Well, we go to the same economy class at college," I told him. I knew he would probably not remember me, but I was secretly hoping he did.
"Oh yeah, you're the one behind me in class," he said, completely surprising me by remembering. "What're you doing here so late?"
I was flustered when I saw his face looking genuinely worried. Don't act embarassing, I told myself. Hey, who wouldn't be nervous talking to a cute boy?
"Um, just looking for extra food," I lied, trying to cover the fact that I was hungry.
"And.. by extra food, you mean ramen?" (゜-゜)
"Y-yeah! What's with that look? It's not like it's a mortal sin for college students to look for ramen, it's basically the college students' go-to food!" (⁄ ⁄>⁄ ▽ ⁄<⁄ ⁄)
"Okay," he grinned. "Anyways since I'm responsible for making you blush that red, let me pay those ramens for you."
...
"No, no! It's totally okay," I said while trying to hide my face. I didn't know how red my face was, but it was already too embarassing to face him anymore.
"Hey, I owe you that much. You made my night," he told me with a smile. He took the ramens and walked to the counter.
>--<3-->
"Gee, you didn't need to," I told him, as we were standing in front of the grocery store.
"It's no biggie. It's the least I can do for a beautiful girl like you."
"Eh?" I exclaimed, feeling my face getting hotter and hotter. Was he hitting on me?
"Actually, let me walk you back home," he offered. "It's dangerous for a girl to walk alone at night."
I could feel my heart beating straight out of my chest, but I couldn't just accept his offer. Afterall, he was still someone who I just knew from class, there are many sorts of things a boy could do to a lone girl at night.
"F-fine! But if you do anything suspicious, I swear I will shout!"
"Yeah, yeah." (¬_¬;)
Along the way, I started to wonder whether it was a dream or not. Everything seemed so surreal. I just met a cute boy, and he was now walking me home. Must've been a dream come true!
When we arrived in front of my flat, he passed me the ramens. "Here's everything. Have a good night."
"Hey!"
"Yeah," he turned to face me, and we were just about nose to nose with each other.
"What is it?" He asked.
"N-nothing, have a good night too!"
"Sure thing," he smiled before heading out on his own way.
As soon as I entered my flat, I placed my ramen on the dining table and lay on my bed. I lay there for a couple of minutes before rising up and preparing to cook the ramens.
As I was rumagging through the plastic bag, I felt something strange inside. I pulled out a small piece of paper, and inside was a note:
My number if you're curious:
081xxxxxxxxI noticed you kept on looking at me at the shop ;)
I couldn't help but smile at the small note. It was a cute thing to do, and I spent all night thinking about him.
Well, two months later, we ended up going out with each other. So, hooray for me! It turned out he was a funny guy, and also a hopeless romantic. So, maybe ramen was indeed the answer to all of human's problems, including love problems. So, here's to ramen! ✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧
