MAX
"Is this some kind of joke?" I asked Cedric.
"I'm afraid not." Cedric stops and looks back at Tori. "Your mother never wanted to tell you 'cause she never wanted you to think you were a mistake because she never thought that. Your 'technically, stepfather', he loved you since the moment you were born. He didn't care whose daughter you were. Your parents tried so hard to protect you from ever becoming like him. But then...." Tori stops him by finishing his sentence.
"I killed them." She says.
"No, Tori, you HAVE to understand that it was not your fault. Please try to understand that." Cedric pleads towards her.
"How else am I supposed to feel? I mean, although I now remember seeing Atlantes through the flames that day, I still should have stopped it. If I didn't get so mad at my parents, I never would have had that happen and they'd still be here today." She says with so much pain, sorrow and guilt.
"Babe, it's alright." I try and comfort her.
"You guys, as much as I appreciate everything you have all done for me, I think that the only way for this to end is for me to confront Atlantes and figure out a way to stop this. We all know that's the only way." She suggests.
"No. It's not. And I'm not letting you walk in there alone and risk being killed or hurt." I protest.
"Max, I have to do this. Besides, he won't kill me or hurt me, he can't and I know he won't." She tells me. "He needs me and my abilities. Without me, he will grow weak."
"Tell her it's crazy." I start to plead with Cedric as I fight back some tears that are beginning to blur my vision.
"I wish I could but, you know what, she might be on to something." He answers.
"What?!" I asked upset and trying not to leap over and start beating the shit out of him.
"Think about it. In a way, she's right, he will never hurt her. At least not in the sense you're thinking." Cedric begins to explain as he looks at me and then back over at Tori while continuing. "The only way he can hurt her is by torturing her soul and condemning it for all eternity in purgatory if she refuses to help him, however, just like she said, he needs her and her powers. Her abilities are far more precious than anything else in this world. However, the worst part of it all is that he could easily turn her into his puppet by possessing her long enough to eventually take full control of her."
"Well that's not happening." I argued. "I'm not going to risk losing her." I began.
"But you won't. Not if we come up with a really good plan, in which I might have an idea."
"Yeah, we all know how this turned out last time." I roll my eyes at him.
"Hey, I know that the last time turned out shitty and for that, I will forever regret because she's my best friend and I would never want to hurt her. But then again, I had no control over that moment."
"Will you guys stop bickering and talking about me like I'm not here?!" I demanded while crossing my arms.
"Sorry my love." I tell her with a kiss on the forehead then look at Cedric. "Fine, so then what do you suggest we do?"
"First, you're going to need to bring all your pack together, along with many other packs that you can trust and I too will find others that will be willing to help." He says.
"Why would I need to call on others? We're just trying to get her aunt and my uncle back..." I stopped myself when I realized what he was REALLY saying. "Oh my god, you want to start a war."
"Not me, but he will. I know my stepfather and I know not just what he's capable of and exactly what will happen. We don't stand a chance without others." Cedric tries to explain.
"But what about the elders from both of our councils or just yours?" I ask.
"This isn't something they will approve of and believe me, they won't want to get involved with this, especially if it involves Atlantes."
"Okay.....So then why don't we go to them to explain about what he plans to do and see if they can get to him before he gets to us and condemn him." I suggested.
"You don't understand Max. This isn't some typical demon/sorcerer you're dealing with. This is the man that can take your soul and torture you for all eternity. He has no remorse for any bad that he does. Even you know that. And if you want to get your uncle back and her aunt then, we need to do it with this plan." He insists.
I look at Tori for a moment and then over at Reece before looking back at Tori to wait and see what she thinks.
"I think we should try it. If you won't let me go myself then, we need to try what he's suggesting." She tells me.
After moments of going back and forth in my mind in thinking if rather or not this is a bad idea, Tori does have a point as does Cedric and they both know their kinds more than I do so I guess, we can go along with this. Just to see.
I look back at Cedric and nod in agreement.
"Fine. I will contact all that I know and have them all meet us here." I assure him.
"Thank you." He smiles.
He leaves and then Reece follows him out and closes the door behind him leaving Tori and I together alone.
"This is going to work." She smiles at me in reassurance.
Deep down I'm not sure this will work but I guess I don't really have much of a choice than to agree to all of this.
Next chapter will be posted soon! :)
