I looked outside the window to see a field of green grass with specks of little blue flowers popping out in between. This would had looked nice if the sky had not been so cloudy for the last few months. Ever since war was declared against countries, the sky no longer smiled at us brightly like it use to. It no longer gave us that sense of happiness. This war was not pretty. Nukes were sent everywhere. Millions died from them.
Not that this really bothered me ,but technology was no longer functional as all wire systems were down. Electricity was gone and we were left to understand the old fashion ways. Lot of people were greatly affected by this. Some went to the extremes of jumping off of roofs because they couldn't handle it. Many did that.
My parents were out leaving me to watch my sister. Food rations were low and my parents couldn't afford to sit around waiting for food to be delivered to us. The government is in full control of how much food we get. Of course there was always the Black Market where you could get more...
Our family was just simply had not enough food to feed all four of us. They refused to bring me saying that the Black Market was too sketchy and I needed to look over my sister. Who's a fourteen year old. I doubt she needs a babysitter.
Getting off my bed I went downstairs and putted on a coat.
"I'm going out to get the mail!" I shouted from downstairs to Molly.
"Ok" she said.
I opened the door and stepped outside to the chilly air. Opening the mailbox I grabbed the stack of mail delivered to us.
"Does the government have nothing to do? Sending us a whole bunch of mail when you could just give us a manual instead?" I muttered.
Going back inside was a relief by how much warmer it was inside than outside. Not that it wasn't cold inside since we didn't have a furnace working anymore but it was way warmer.
I sorted the mail out and placed it on the dining table. While sorting it out I caught one mail that was enveloped from the army.
I didn't get drafted did I?
Of course you didn't get drafted! You seventeen still! I reminded myself relieved at the thought.
Looking at it I inspected it before reading the fine print.
Strange. It's not from someone we know.
I took the mail upstairs and read through it.
Before I knew it I had started to write back.
Dear Mr. Private Jonas
You probably never thought that anyone would had written back to you judging how you didn't mention it in your letter. I don't know what came over me that made me
decide I should write back. Though I must say Whoeverit's is not exactly a creative name but, still I'll give you credit for it.I don't mind you sending letters to this house (I think you made it pretty clear that you were going to send these letters to this house regardless).
I just wanted you to feel at ease to keep sending letters. Of course with a small fee since I'll be you personal diary (I'm joking by the way).
Just out of curiosity. Do you mind telling me something's about yourself. Might as well get to know each other right?
Just so you know about me.
1. I'm seventeen years old
2. My name's Ava
3. I have a sister name Molly
4. I hate this warSorry if this unsettles you. I'm quite an outgoing person so if this unsettles you I apologize.
