"What part of don't call me do you not understand?" I seethed down the phone even though I had a smile at my face. Zayn chuckled like my words didn't phase him at all.
"I'm starting to think you enjoy my phone calls otherwise you wouldn't pick up." I rolled my eyes.
"Zayn," I took a deep breath. "Please. I need you to stop calling me. Can't you see how painfull this is? I need space."
"I'm sorry but I'm selfish and I don't want to lose my best friend." His words were a bit shaky, I don't think he really did understand how hard it was for me to get over him with his constant phone calls.
"As touching as that is, I can't be your best friend anymore."
"Yes you can. I need to tell you something." He changed the subject to stop me from hanging up. He knew how our phone calls worked, he had to keep me interested otherwise I would hang up. But keeping me interested wasn't hard when his breathing on it's own was intriguing.
"What is it?" I picked up an apple and began munching. I was leaving Melbourne in two days, and as much as I loved the break, and told myself I was healing, I couldn't deny that in reality I'd made no progress with getting over Zayn and I blame the damn phone calls.
"Well I'm not allowed to tell you." I huffed at his childish response.
"Whatever." I snapped. "I've got better things to do than waste my time talking to you about bull-"
"Listen to me!" He interrupted and I was caught off guard. I liked playing angry with him. I liked making him work for my time and savour it even though I'm sure he wasn't trying as hard as I cared to pretend.
"Get to it then?" I said before taking another bite of my apple.
"Someone's snappy."
"Not off to a great start, Zayn."
"Right. Well I want to tell you something, that's why I've been calling you a lot. But everytime I get close I pull back. I'm not allowed to tell you, but I think you have a right to know."
"Then just spit it out?"
"I can't, don't you get it! I want you to guess."
"Seriously? You want me to guess what ever the hell it is that's on your mind?"
"Yes, that way I haven't exactly told you what it is so I won't feel guilty about it." He said and I rolled my eyes. This is one of his shittier attempts at being interesting. Normally he'd start singing Irresistible to me or tell me Perrie's embarrassing stories to make me feel better. One time Perrie's false eyelashes got stuck together at a party they went to and she got mad at Zayn for laughing at her. I assured Zayn that it was because he laughed that we were friends.
"Fine. Give me a clue."
"Ok, it's about me."
"Wow that's narrowed it down."
"Just try, I'll say yes or no."
"Ok, does it have something to do with your hair?"
"No, it's more serious than that."
"Something more serious than Zayn Malik's hair? Impossible!" I said sarcastically and he snapped at me. "Ok settle down, does it have something to do with the band?"
"Yes."
"Are the other boys allowed to know whatever this thing is?"
"No."
"Does Perrie know?"
"Yes."
"Is this thing troubling you?"
