all luke saw was black, he felt weak and somehow unattached from his own body. he didn't remember what had happened, or why he was feeling this way. the boy heard muffled voices before he found himself opening his blue eyes to be greeted with the harsh yellow light that almost blinded him.

"where am i?" he asked, quickly dropping up to scan the room. his eyes fell upon many items before it settled on the face of a man he was once accompanied by. he raised an eyebrow as he felt his blood run cold. looking ashton right in the eye was chilling, he felt guilted—he felt many feelings, he didn't know what to do. he decided to keep his composure, he was now a college student and had to now think as one.

"you fainted, i didn't know you were that excited to see me." ashton stated cooly, causing luke to chuckle. he had still had his humor and cockiness; but how could he? luke almost—luke did ruin his life, why was he cracking jokes?

"shouldn't you hate me?" luke asked, clearing his throat as he watched ashton let out a sigh before taking off the gloves that he had on. he watched the man take a seat on the chair next to luke, looking at him from another level. he was still so tall, even when he was sitting. luke didn't feel like beating around the bush, he wanted answers.

"shouldn't i hate you?" ashton began, leaning back as he pouted his lip to think. "no. i shouldn't hate you, you didn't do anything to me. i don't have time to hate, luke." he said truthfully, "a part of me knew what i was getting into." he shrugged before standing up and cracking his knuckles, "you look like you have more questions, so ask."

"i-how-how did you get this job..?" luke asked. it wouldn't take a genius to realize that with ashton's history he shouldn't be around kids, or well teenagers. or better yet, shouldn't his license be revoked?

ashton stared at luke blankly before he let out another sigh. "i got out." was all he said before heading to the door to open it.

"what do you mean you got out? what does that me-" luke began before being interrupted by the man.

"we can talk about this later, go home and rest." ashton said, his tone not cold but not rather inviting. luke nodded his head before slowly getting up and trudging his way out the door, turning around to see yet another person go in. he frowned as he looked down at his shoes, beginning his path back to the dorm.

the next few days were different for luke, he had began classes and had loved them all, but all he could think about was how welcoming his first week of college was. how calum and ashton made their way into his life so abruptly and how he was struggling to find friends. living with calum so far had been going good, he was barely in the room due to the new group of friends he had made and when he was in the room they wouldn't engage in much conversation for they were both studying.

luke was a bit bummed that calum had already found his niche in college, he was hanging out with people that fit calum's aesthetic perfectly, and as luke knew, calum's aesthetic was more so his as well. it hurt watching his ex-friend walking around with potential friends, it hurt that he was partying whilst luke stayed inside of his dorm. luke felt empty and lonely, but he understood that this too shall pass.

days went on and everything felt almost normal to luke. besides the void he felt, he was doing well in his classes and had became acclimated to his living situation. soon the colder weather fall upon him and luke would find himself studying in the coffee shop rather than his room, for the heater was in the process of being fixed.

"would you like more coffee? you've been studying since 10am, it's now 5." the waitress, dianne, had asked. luke had been constantly studying at coffee shop for what seemed to be the whole month of october into november. they had now known luke and his intentions and he grew fond of the waitress dianne, who would pour luke free refills when she found him looking restless.

"have i really been here that long?" he asked, a bit embarrassed before nodding his head for her to commence the coffee pouring.

"i can understand studying is important, but maybe you should head out—be out. you're always here. i do adore seeing your lovely face, but baby please get out." she said sweetly, patting luke's shoulder before she left him to his own mind.

she was right. luke has been here since august and has not gone to any club or social event. a part of him was afraid, but he knew it had to be done. luke looked at his 'three quartered-ly' done work before closing his laptop and sipping the coffee he had asked for. he ended up packing everything up before making his way back to his dorm. he was fixated on the idea that he should go to a club, it was a friday night— he didn't see why not?

luke had made it to his dorm quicker than ever, probably from the high of caffeine and his determination to begin to mend his social status. the boy had thrown his items on his large desk before heading over to his wardrobe to pick out an oversized pink satin button up paired with shorts, although they were not shown. he applied lotion to his milky shaven legs before fluffing his blonde hair and his white fila sneakers. he had applied a thin layer of makeup, knowing that from past experiences it would just melt off anyways. he hummed as he called an uber to pick him up, excited to head out.

**

luke hasn't been to the club since he was sixteen and this time he was allowed to do so legally. he felt excited but a bit scared, he didn't know what to expect or who to see. anyone and everyone could be here, but it didn't benefit him anyways— he knew not one soul in his college besides calum and now ashton.

he made his way to the front of the line, showing the bouncer his id before being signaled to enter. it had looked like a regular club, fluorescent lights, silhouette bodies dancing against or away from eachother and the countless amount of drunk teenagers and upperclassmen. luke sighed deeply, he wasn't even sure if he had wanted to be here—he didn't see himself as that same partier he was before.

luke's big blue eyes scoped around the crowd as his feet carried him aimlessly to the bar where he sat down. he ordered himself a drink, pouting to himself as he looked around. why was he here?

luke found that as he sat there, he would progressively order more and more drinks—finding himself drunk and bored, the worst combination ever. he didn't even know why he was drinking, he was so fúcking unamused by this whole 'club' thing that he had hoped drinking would change his perspective; it didn't.

luke groaned to himself as he slid off the barstool, stumbling slightly as he pushed himself through the crowd to exit the club, needing fresh air although he had no intention of coming back inside. he found himself leaning against the wall, closing his eyes before sinking to his knees and sighing to himself, he hadn't drank in so long, he honestly couldn't even handle it either. he held his stomach before finding himself emptying all he had drank in a bush near him.

"fancy seeing you here." he heard. the blonde boy wiped his mouth before looking up at the tall figure who had offered his hand to the small boy.

"why are you always following me around?" luke slurred, grabbing ashton's hand with his cleaner hand. he nodded his head as a form of gratitude before sulking once more.

"i'm on call all the time. you do realize this is downtown sydney? everyone is here, 18+ bars, 21+ bars, restaurants— everything." ashton said, looking at look with a stern look. "you have puke on your chin." he said, causing luke to roll his eyes before huffing.

"whatever, i'm going." he mumbled, beginning to trudge off to where he thought was the right direction before he heard ashton call out to him.

"luke, wait—" ashton said, following the young boy. "come with me, i can't leave you like this. i mean look at you, you're drunk." he had said. the boy was not in any mood to dispute against the older man. he nodded his head before holding the arm that the man had offered before walking to his car that was parked far away. like he said, ashton was on call but for another club that was across the street and towards the left of where luke had been. l

luke had gotten in the car, finding himself in a comfortable position before he had fell asleep, completely wasted and messy.
