So I seem to be having a go at critics and critiques, huh. But this is a rant I've been needing to get out of my system...

People who ask for a critique and then get PISSED OFF as hell when you critique their work.

Like seriously, what's up with that?

If I recall correctly, you asked for a brutally honest critique

But when you have it, you're like FUCK OFF YOU RUDE BITCH

And it's like - what? Did you just want me to say that your work is amazing and splendid and unicorns and bubbles?

If I notice problems in your writing, should I not state them?

And what the critic says is not even mean, it's just showing you the mistake you were oblivious to.

Don't you just get pissed off by people like that, especially in real life where you tell them something and then they get so defensive. They don't even listen, they're just quick to say "I know it better so stfu!"

I don't even understand that. Being told you're not amazing at certain things does suck, but how you react says a lot about you.

Me: Should we show them an example?

Inner Voice: No lol

Me: Why are you so mean? You need to be nic--

Inner Voice: Don't you dare tell me what to be.

Me: hmfp. Here's your example anyway, guys.

What the critic says:

So here's your critique as requested! I really like your characters, Natasha and Benjamin are great, speech between them is funny and relatable.
One thing though: you need to work on descriptions because I find that your setting isn't explored as much...Dialogue between characters overweighs everything else.
It's really interesting though, great job:)

My characters talk like NORMAL PEOPLE OKAY, we all talk to each other, just like I'm TALKING to you right now. I'm sorry my description is too little for you, maybe you should go and feast on a DICTIONARY if this isn't good enough for you but honestly it's not fair that you're bringing down my book like this, go fu<k yourself.

Okay, so I may or may have not exaggerated in that example, but in my [previous] quiet life on wattpad, I do remember a few people who would backlash at me and take my view the wrong way

Like you'd point out a mistake and they'd protect that shit like the SS protect the President okay, you say, "you use a bit too many comas," and they'll be like "IT'S THE EFFECT I'M ADDING OKAY I MEANT TO DO THAT."

But I'm just like - IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE IT, WHY DID YOU ASK FOR IT?

I say that inside, of course.

On a serious note, I understand that y'all feel protective over your work and everything, but sometimes you need to be able to handle criticism gracefully.

One person's opinion shouldn't get you all worked up.

You know what, these people should just suck it up omfg

some people may know better yea
