Calum's POV

The cool table top pressed against the side of my face as I was slumped over with Amber patting my shoulder. She was still working on her homework but using her left hand to gently give comforting pats.

"Calum, can you please tell me what's wrong?" she used the eraser of her pencil to push her glasses up on the bridge of her nose. "I mean I know we're not exactly best friends yet but it'd be nice to know what I'm trying to comfort you about."

"I can't tell you, you'll hate me." I mumbled.

"I won't, I promise." She sat her pencil down and used both hands to gather her papers together.

I bit my lip and thought about it, sitting up. Even if she does hate me it won't be such a big deal because like she said, we're not exactly best friends yet.

"Do you really like Michael?" I asked, turning to look at her.

She stared down at the table for a while before answering, "I don't know. He's nice and funny but we're not really compatible. Why?"

She turned to look at me, her green eyes staring at me, waiting for a response.

"I uh I kinda think I might maybe not really but possibly sorta like him." I rambled, feeling my face heat up. I groaned and leaned forward with my hands covering my face.

She didn't say anything and I didn't know what that could possibly mean. Either she quietly left, she was intensely judging me, or she was in shock.

I pulled my hands away from my face and looked at her.

She was smirking.

"I knew it."

"What?" I frowned in confusion.

"Well not really," she tilted her head to the side "but in a way I did. You were so jealous at the diner and I thought it was just because you hated me after we had our little dispute, but you were just jealous." She looked back at me and smirked.

"I did kinda hate you." I shrugged. "But that was because I was jealous I guess."

"Can I ship this?"

"Excuse me?"

"Um, never mind." Her eyes darted away. "So, what's got you so bummed out and trying to avoid michael?"

"I-I kissed him." I said quietly.

"Wow really when?"

"Saturday night, after I dropped you off. He showed up at my house pissed because I took you home without telling him." I glanced down at her hands that were twisted together. "I just kissed him and then ran inside."

"He hasn't said anything to you about it has he?" she asked.

"No, that's why I was hiding from him. I was scared of what he'd say."

"He asked you on a date." She chuckled.

"He did not, he just asked me to the movies in a completely platonic way." I scoffed. "Either he was drunk and doesn't remember the kiss or he's choosing to ignore it. Either way is fine by me."

She rolled her eyes and nudged my shoulder. "It's not fine by you, you like him. You obviously want him to like you back and he might."

"I doubt it."

"I don't."

I was about to respond when the library door was tore open and Ashton came running in, drawing attention from everyone and pissing the librarians off.

"Cal, it's Jeremy come on. He's fucked up." Ashton panted, waving his hand for me to follow.

My eyes widened and I jumped up from my seat and ran after him. I followed him as we ran through the outside corridors and into the lunchroom.

Jeremy was being held back by Chase and that weird kid that kept breathing down my neck the other day as some guy that I recognized as senior stood a few feet away smirking and taunting Jeremy. Jeremy's face was red and he kept struggling to free himself from his friends.

"What the hell is going on here?" I yelled over all the mumbling and laughing.

The guy turned towards me and smiled, I know who this guy is. It's Devon Willis. He's an asshole.

"This little twat has a smart mouth." He chuckled. "It's gonna get him in some serious trouble one da-"

Sometime while neither of us was looking Jeremy broke out of his friends hold and punched Devon straight across the face. Devon's head turned to the side on impact but he showed now pain and went to tackling Jeremy.

"Get your hands off my brother!" I yelled, jumping on his side and knocking him off of my squirming brother.

We rolled around threw punches at each other until I felt arms wrapping around my waist and piling me off of him. "Calum, calm your shit!" It was Ashton.

"Let go of me!" I yelled, squirming in his grasp. He finally let me go and I looked around. Jeremy was still on the floor, propped up by his elbows looking at me, Devon was being pulled up by his friends, Luke and Michael stood aside with Ashton and looked at me with concern.

"Hell yes! I've been waiting for a fight to happen all semester an- aw fuck don't tell me I missed it." Jenks pried his way through the small crowd and frowned. "Why do I even come to school?"

My lip stung and I reached up to touch it, when I looked down at my hand there was blood on my fingers. I clenched my eyes shit and walked over to Jeremy.

"C'mon." I said, grabbing his arm. "We're going home."

"Cal-"

"I don't wanna hear it, tell it to mum and dad."
