When Mary arrived home her answering machine was flashing with two new messages. It was strange since the only people with the landline number where from her office and her old friends from New York.

The first message was from Beatrice, a friend from Coney Island saying she would be in Boston for three days because of her new book, and she wanted to meet up with her after the last 2 years that passed with only a few phone calls and skype sessions between them. The last message was from Alice Ericson, her mother, saying that she wanted to talk to her later by dinner time on her old family house to share some news.

Mary was worried about Brook 'cause since morning she didn't talked to her. She was anxious to know how the Rachel's paternity test went . She was brought back from her mental tumult by the sound of a key on the lock of the front door.

Brook burst through the door with Rachel by her side and a champagne bottle on the other hand. Her fear for Brook dissipated by the time she saw her lover's smile and the giggly child running to her arms.

Hey Rach, how was school? Did you learn something new today?  tightening her hold around the toddler body and looking to Brook's eyes that smiled back at her.

I learned how to build a broom and some ugly faces for Halloween. We played with paint, glue and paper. Johnny was full of glue and paint on him and Katy had paper glued to her hair. Ms.Harris didn't let us play more with the glue 'cause we were always throwing things to each other.answered the giggling toddler making them all laugh.

So, that's why i am late, she was a walking piece of glue, paper and paint by the time i went to pick her from school. explained Brook. And i took the liberty of buying some dinner for us. showing the bag on her right arm Since my mother went to see my aunt Mariane, and she will only be back by Sunday i was thinking that we, me and Rachel, could take those days to enjoy some quality time with you. winking to Mary

Is that so? smiling back to Brook with twinkling eyes. Looking back to Rachel. So what do you say? Dinner, Nemo and ice cream, then bed time, hum.

Yay, Nemo. the toddler hollered excitedly jumping of Mary's arms and running through the living room, then stopping in the middle of the room looking back to Brook with puppy eyes. Mama could i have some banana and chocolate ice cream?

Just after you eat your veggies and the chicken, then we'll see if you can have the banana-split ok? answered Brook trying to sound serious and hold the smile to her daughter's well trained puppy dog eyes.

After dinning and watching the movie, Rachel was snoozing in the sofa of Mary's living room. Mary and Brook were finishing the second bottle of white wine. Mary was snuggled in Brook's side with her head on her shoulder and with her right hand interwinned with Brook's left hand. Brook caressed Mary's arm while they watched other movie that Brook brought with her.

The silence was interrupted by Brook's voice. So, how was your day love? Since you didn´t called i assumed that it went well. she asked looking to her lover's azure eyes.

When i was in the elevador i had some flashbacks but then the new secretary helped me calming down. caressing Brook's worried face Then, Ms.Parker came out of the office and we talked for some time. She offered me an opportunity to work for the DA office instead of working for her. I think that she is sorry for what happened and is trying to compensate me in some way. letting her hand come back to grasp her lover's.

And what did you say o her? asked Brook tightening her grasp.

I accepted, since the secretary on DA's office was stepping down from her post and Ms. Parker has a new secretary i thought that it would be for the best. looking for reasurance in her lover's gaze I think i need a new place to work so i wont be haunted by the past, you know?

Well, if you think it is the best for you, you know i'll always be there for you no matter what happens. kissing Mary's nose.

Soooooooooo. Kile isn't rachel's father, is he? Mary asked curiously

A smile stretched on Brook's happy face He's not my daughter's father. she answered with misty eyes. I can't find the words to express how much i am happy for that fact. I wished i was a fly so i could see his face when he saw the results. It should have been hilarious. Thank God he didn't find his way in our life.

Mary strongly hugged her and dropped little kisses all over Brook's smily face. By the time they shared one steamed up kiss they had happy tears running down their faces and found themselfs gazing dreamingly to each other's eyes.

They decided to go to the bedroom celebrate the new path they were taking in their lives. The one they would share with their friends and loved ones.

Life was getting better indead.
