Y/N and Patrick were neighbours and each other's playmates. They've always been loved rainy days and have always been curious about how it'd feel like going outside and just chase each other through the rain.

Their parents, of course, being protective of them, wouldn't let them out, most especially not while it's raining.

One time, Y/N was getting bored watching the rain pour heavily on the concrete and watching the plants joyfully sway and bend in the strong downpour.

She sighed and looked behind her where she could see her mother cook an afternoon snack in the kitchen, then looked back through the grids of glass on the door.

Y/N could unlock the door. She knows how to. She could run outside and bask in the glorious rain. She could do that.

She did another glance at her mother and looked back outside the teasingly beautiful view of the wild rain that's just a few steps from the spot she's currently in.

I can do it and I will do it.

It was the very first decision that she's ever done by herself.

Y/N unlocked the door, ran outside, laughing as the rain drops finally hit her skin and soon soaked through her hair and her dress.

She spun around as the wind blew. She felt like the child of the universe. She felt home.

Her laughter and her joyful screams echoed through the streets loud enough for Patrick to hear.

Patrick's been also watching the rain from the window in the living room while planning to sneak out. Now that he saw his best friend, Y/N, right outside and enjoying the rain; that was the last straw of proof that he needed that it's cool to finally run outside and play in the rain as well.

Patrick ran to Y/N, laughing and screaming in joy. They spread out their arms and ran around shouting that they're the king and the queen of the world.

The downpour indeed became their kingdom celebrating for them. It didn't matter where they are, what they're wearing, or what they're doing. If it's raining outside, they would immediately run outside and bask themselves with nature's tears.

It remained that way until they grew up, graduated elementary, and Y/N had to move out with her mom to a new city.

Y/N and Patrick didn't have much chance to say goodbye, because goodbye's will never be enough to remember every memory of each other; how they looked and how they sounded at that moment and every moment before that will never be enough to last and tonkeep them accompanied everytime they longing and loneliness will come together with remembering.

During that moment, the sky also seemed to empathize with the sadness that was filling up their chests. The grey heavy clouds slowly got together, making the temperature colder.
