"Listen, Chelsea, is it? Yeah, I do think I'm better than you," Kim said. "Yeah, you're a senior," she said, making a face with her eyebrows raised, "but your age has nothing to do with your talent. So, yeah, I think I can beat you and become captain as a sophomore."

Chelsea clenched her jaw. "You've been here for less than a week, fledgling. Our team is doing pretty well, so I don't think we need to change captains. You were good enough to be let into our squad, but don't think that means anything."

Kim shrugged. "I don't know. It sounds like you're scared of me. Maybe, perhaps, a little threatened? What's the harm in a little friendly competition?"

Chelsea rolled her eyes. "Fine, we can have a friendly competition." She flicked her hair over her shoulder and snapped her fingers.

One of the cheerleaders pressed play on the stereo. An upbeat and slightly dark beat started playing. There were no words to it, so Kim and Chelsea had to rely on the beats. Kim was at a slight disadvantage. The song was something Chelsea's team had been practicing for a halftime routine they would perform at one of the lacrosse games, while Kim only moved to Beacon Hills less than a week ago. Kim smirked as she watched Chelsea go first at free-styling to the song. Next up was Kim, and she easily beat Chelsea. She did more flips and turns, along with sharp movements that hip-hop dancers used.

Chelsea huffed. "Girls? Who do you think should be captain?"

The rest of the cheerleaders didn't know who to pick. Kim was much better, but Chelsea was on a higher hierarchy.

"I think the redhead wins!" Coach Finstock shouted from across the field.

Kim smiled. "Well, I think that should pretty much settle it."
