More weeks passed, and as they did, Barry and Y/N only seemed to grow happier, everything was fitting into place perfectly in their lives. For once, the universe seemed as though it was on their side, that perhaps they were finally getting their happy ending, but would it last?
Barry had to put in a little overtime at CCPD on this particular night, he didn't like it, but it was necessary so he could finish up a case he had been working on. It was late at night, as Barry walked into the apartment and heard the TV on softly in the living room.
Barry walked further inside and saw Y/N curled up on the couch in one of his sweatshirts and a blanket. She was fast asleep, though Barry knew she had spent most of the day fighting crime as The Flash, so her being tired didn't surprise him.
He walked over to her and kissed her forehead lightly before he adjusted her blanket to cover her a little more as she slept.
Just before Barry could sit down beside her he could have sworn he saw a flash of lightning come from outside their large living room windows. The type of lightning that a speedster leaves a trail of when they run. Barry furrowed his brows before walking over and looking outside at the street below.
Without thinking, Barry sped out of the apartment as fast as he could, trying to chase whatever he saw. His flashing away caused a sound which was loud enough for Y/N to wake up, she looked around groggily before standing up.
"Barr?" she asked softly, seeing his coat and phone on the table. "Barry?" she asked again, running a tired hand over her face.
Y/N slowly grew more worried when Barry didn't respond. She ran upstairs and didn't find Barry up there either, she ran back downstairs and just before she could run out the door Barry flashed his way back into the apartment.
"Hey," he greeted, trying to brush what he just did, hoping that Y/N didn't know.
Y/N furrowed her brows at him, "Where did you go?" she asked him.
Barry shrugged, "What? I-I didn't go anywhere," he scoffed, trying to play it cool.
Y/N saw right through his act, she knew Barry well enough to know when he was hiding something, "Yes, you did. You left your phone, keys, and jacket on the table. Not to mention you just came speeding in here," she replied, crossing her arms across her chest.
Barry sighed, "I thought I saw something outside," he told her. "I thought it was a flash of lightning, but I couldn't find anything, so it must have just been my imagination."
Y/N nodded, "Okay," she said walking over and kissing his cheek. "I'm gonna go to bed, I'll see you up there soon?" she guessed.
Barry nodded, smiling slightly, "Yeah, I just have to call Joe and tell him that I finished up this case first," Barry replied.
"Okay," Y/N said walking upstairs.
Barry let out a frustrated sigh, he knew his eyes weren't playing tricks on him. He definitely saw something out there or someone for that matter. That flash of lightning was real, and something created it. And he was determined to figure it out.
