Y/N slept in the med bay that night, she didn't want to go home, and she certainly didn't feel well enough to go anywhere else for that matter. Barry was still waiting anxiously outside in the Cortex as he kept a watchful eye on her. He didn't want to go home, not without Y/N, and he didn't want her to be left alone at the lab either.
So instead, he sat and waited. What was he waiting for? Even Barry wasn't sure of the answer to that question...
He certainly didn't expect Y/N to forgive him easily, what he had done was crazy, but in the end, it had saved Y/N's life, and that was all Barry wanted. He wanted Y/N to be alive and safe, he only wished that he could hold her in his arms.
What Barry didn't know was that he didn't need Y/N's forgiveness, she wasn't angry with him, just confused and afraid. All she needed was the reasoning behind Barry's actions to justify what he did, all she needed, or wanted for that matter, was an explanation from him...
But Barry didn't now that, he felt horrible for what he had done, he wished that he could take back what had happened. But at the same time, he was relieved that Y/N was okay.
A few hours had passed and Barry was busying himself with some police work at Cisco's desk. He was looking over some cases for Singh, he just needed something to distract him for a little while.
However, in the med bay, Y/N was torn from a not so peaceful sleep. She had been unable to sleep soundly all night, she kept waking up every couple of hours without fail. And now she was awake in the middle of the night, unable to fall back asleep, after several failed attempts, she slowly sat up and let out a frustrated sigh.
Y/N was truly tired, hell, she was exhausted. All she wanted to do was sleep and finally get some rest, but that idea seemed to escape her for some unknown reason. Y/N turned and saw Barry in the Cortex, his gaze focused on her as he looked away from his work.
"Are you just going to sit there all night?" Y/N asked flatly, stifling a yawn as she rubbed her tired eyes.
Barry slowly stood up and sauntered into the med bay, "I wasn't sure you wanted me in here," he mentioned.
"I'm not sure that I do, so don't push your luck," she warned as Barry stood beside the bed.
Barry sighed softly, "Y/N, I know you're mad at me-"
"I'm not mad at you, Barry," Y/N interrupted. "I'm just...frustrated about trying to figure out why you would bring Thawne here to 'help' me," she explained.
"Y/N-"
"I trusted you," Y/N intervened. "Barry, you've always been there to comfort me through the hard times and the nightmares, so you know how many bad memories I have of Thawne...you know what he's done to me..."
"I know," Barry said softly. "But at the moment it seemed like the right decision."
Y/N shook her head, "You never thought about how I would react when I woke up and saw his face staring down at me?" she wondered. "That thought never crossed your mind?"
Barry stood silently, his head hung in defeat as Y/N's eyes were on him. "It did, but I was so focused on you, that nothing else seemed to matter..."
Y/N sighed softly, "Barry, that man murdered your mother, he's terrorized you for years. And somehow you still thought that it was a good idea to leave him alone in a room with me?"
Barry sighed as he took a seat on the bed beside Y/N, "I'm sorry for bringing Thawne here, but it was the only way," he started.
"Barry-"
"Please," Barry interrupted softly. "Just let me explain," he pleaded.
Y/N slowly nodded in response, she wanted to hear what Barry had to say. She knew that Barry wouldn't have done what he did if he didn't have a good reason, that's why she wasn't mad at him, she was just confused and upset that he didn't tell her his reasoning sooner.
"You were dying, Y/N," he told her. "What was I supposed to do?" he asked. "Just stand by and watch my wife die? I don't think so... I was willing to do whatever it took to save you, and when Caitlin and Julian told me that they couldn't, I found someone who could," he explained. "Y/N, I love you so much that it hurts," Barry told her with tears brimming in his eyes. "Seeing you like that, dying in here...it broke me, and I refuse to say goodbye to another person that I care about...I'm sorry, call me selfish, call me whatever you want, but I did what I did because I love you, Y/N, you're my wife..."
Y/N still seemed upset, "And your grand plan was Eobard Thawne, the man who murdered your mother and who also wears the same face as the man who murdered my parents?" she questioned.
Barry hung his head in defeat, "Yes," he admitted. "I know you don't like him, I don't either, but he is still the smartest person I know, and I knew that he could save you and I couldn't...I couldn't save you," Barry told her with a shaky voice. "You always say that I'm your hero," Barry added, his voice small. "But when it mattered most, I couldn't save you. I was helpless, so I did the only thing I knew that I could do, which was to find someone who could save you," he explained. "I'm sorry..."
Y/N paused for a moment, she knew that Barry meant well by his actions, and she couldn't deny that Thawne was effective, she only wished that Barry would have told her his reasoning sooner, that way most of this mess could have been avoided.
Y/N slowly began to understand where Barry was coming from. If the situation had been reversed, Y/N would have moved mountains to save Barry...so how could she blame him for what he did?
Y/N slowly reached out and held Barry's hand, pulling him from his thoughts as she gave his hand a gentle squeeze.
Barry looked up and met Y/N's eyes with his own, "Y/N-"
Y/N shook her head, "Shh," she interrupted as she leaned in. Barry was silent as Y/N pressed her lips against Barry's softly, capturing him in a tender kiss.
Barry pulled back slowly, his forehead resting against Y/N's as he stared into her eyes.
"I forgive you," Y/N told him as she became lost in his eyes. "If it was your life on the line, I would do anything that I could to save you. I can't blame you, because if the situation had been reversed, I can't say that I wouldn't have done the same..."
Barry smiled slightly, he felt relieved by Y/N's words. He lifted his hand to cup Y/N's cheek in his palm as he caught her lips in a second kiss.
Y/N pulled back and wrapped her arms around Barry, hugging him tightly. Barry snaked his arms around her, holding her close as she tucked her head into his chest.
"Is there anything I can do for you?" he asked softly.
Y/N nodded slightly, "Going home would be nice," she mentioned.
Barry smiled as he pulled back, his arms still snug around Y/N, "Home does sound nice..."
