Chapter 45

A few weeks later, Y/N was finally feeling back to 100% again. She was returning to her normal activities of flashing around the city as she did before her encounter with Zoom and his metahuman gas.

Y/N had spent the whole day at S.T.A.R. Labs with Cisco, the two had spent the day fighting crime and eating burgers.

Though Y/N eventually grew tired and decided to go home, she walked into her and Barry's apartment, dropping her keys in the bowl by the door before she headed into the kitchen to grab something to drink.

Though a note on the kitchen counter made Y/N freeze in her tracks. Y/N furrowed her brows, confused as to why a note would be there, "Barry?" she called out, wondering if he was home.

Y/N turned on her heels and looked around the apartment, she didn't see anyone or anything. Y/N called Barry's name again, but Barry never replied; Y/N assumed that he was at the station or at the lab with Cisco.

The note had the Flash emblem on the front of it. Y/N hesitantly picked up the note and opened it.

Y/N's stomach dropped, why would Zoom want to meet? What on Earth could he possibly want now?

Y/N didn't know what to think or what to do. She set the note down with shaky hands, she was about to go find Barry when she heard someone open the front door.

Y/N let out a sigh of relief when she saw Barry walk into the kitchen.

"Hey," he greeted with a smile. However, Barry's smile quickly dropped when he saw how scared Y/N seemed, "Are you okay?" he asked worriedly as he walked over to her.

Y/N shook her head as she pushed the note towards Barry. Barry furrowed his brows as he opened the note, his expression dropped as he read exactly what Y/N did mere moments ago.

Y/N folded her arms around her chest, "What are we supposed to do with that?" she wondered.

Barry sighed softly, "I don't know," he replied honestly as he put the note aside.

"Barry, how did he even get in here?" she asked.

Barry shook his head, "I don't know," he answered. Barry saw how on edge Y/N seemed, he stepped forward and wrapped his arms around her tightly in an effort to soothe her. Honestly, Barry was on edge too, Zoom had been a thorn in Barry's side for so long now, he was prepared to do anything to put Zoom to an end.

Y/N snaked her arms around Barry's middle as she tucked her head into his chest. She didn't like the idea of Zoom being in her and Barry's home...again...

Zoom had proven time and time again that he could do almost anything he wanted to Barry and Y/N, and he wasn't afraid to hurt them...

"We'll be okay," Barry whispered in Y/N's ear in a low voice.

Y/N felt safe as Barry held her close, "Barr," Y/N said as she pulled back slightly. "What are we going to do about the note?"

"Nothing," Barry told her. "We aren't going to give in to Zoom's antics."

Barry noticed how Y/N's hands were shaking against his chest, "Hey," he said softly, gaining her attention. "Whatever Zoom is up to it's a trap...so we are going to stay here, and we are going to stay safe."

Y/N nodded slowly as Barry leaned his forehead against hers gently, "I won't let him touch you," Barry added.

"I know," Y/N hummed.

Barry slowly pressed his lips against Y/N's softly, "I love you."

"I love you too..."

The next morning Y/N was feeling a little better, though she and Barry were still nervous about what Zoom was scheming. They were planning on spending the day together following Zoom's latest threat. They both needed time to try to forget about Zoom, even if it was only for one day.

Zoom had been relentless since the first day that he had resurfaced, and his presence was taking its toll on Barry and Y/N. A day at home together, just forgetting the world together, for a few hours was much needed at this point.

However, a frantic call from Cisco halted their plans...

Barry and Y/N walked into the Cortex hand in hand, they were met by a worried Cisco and an even more worried Harry.

"Finally," Harry sighed as he met both Barry and Y/N's eyes. "We have a serious problem."

Y/N furrowed her brows, "What kind of problem?" she asked.

"Zoom," Cisco answered. "He sent a threat to S.T.A.R. Labs this morning," he explained. "The threat says that he has developed a metahuman gas that he intends to release on the public. He said that if you two don't meet with him tonight, then he will release this information to every news station in the city before dispersing the gas to the public."

Barry sighed, "We should have told you last night-"

"Told us what?" Harry interruptedly questioned.

"That Zoom left us a note at the apartment," Y/N clarified. "It told us to meet him at 9:00 last night and that we know where to find him."

Harry's jaw practically dropped, he couldn't believe what he was hearing, "You two had a chance to stop this and you what? Just ignored him?"

Barry shook his head, "We weren't going to give in to his insane antics," he told Harry. "It was clearly a trap."

"Yeah, and you not telling us has now caused an even bigger problem," Cisco informed Barry. "Even if he doesn't release the gas, just giving the information that he has such a gas to the public will cause widespread panic."

"Y/N, you know first hand how dangerous this gas is," Harry said as he stepped forward, "Both of you know better than anyone that we haven't found a way to stop him, we couldn't stop him all those years ago and we can't stop him now," he warned.

Y/N sighed softly, "You don't think we know that?" she asked Harry. "We are well aware that Zoom has handed our asses to us on multiple occasions, we know how powerful Zoom is, we know him better than you do."

"What the hell are we going to do now?" Cisco wondered.

Barry was deep in thought, he remembered something Zoom had told him years ago, an offer he had made Barry. Back then, Barry had refused, but now, it was beginning to seem like a good idea.

Barry met Y/N's eyes, she knew exactly what Barry was thinking, and though it was crazy...it made sense...

Y/N hated knowing what Barry was thinking, she didn't like the plan that he had running through his head, but she knew it was the only option they had.

"We're going to go meet Zoom tonight, and we're going to make him an offer he can't refuse," Barry told them.

Cisco furrowed his brows, "What kind of offer?" he wondered.

"One that will fix all of our problems, we'll fill you in on the details later," Y/N said as she and Barry made their way out of the Cortex.

As the pair walked down the hall Barry noticed how tense Y/N was, he reached out and held her hand in an attempt to comfort her as they continued to walk.

Y/N looked up and sent Barry a thankful glance, she knew that what they were about to do was dangerous, hell, it was insane, but at this point, it was the only thing that would work.

Their plan was the only thing that could finally stop Zoom's reign of terror...

Barry and Y/N were going to sacrifice themselves in exchange for Zoom to stop his torments on Central City. Zoom would get what he always wanted, Barry and Y/N would be his trophies, and Zoom would be the fastest speedster alive...

Barry and Y/N, on the other hand, would suffer a fate far worse than death...it was a steep price to pay, but it was one they were both willing to pay...
