introduction

Lee Donghyuck; single and fucking lonely.

Actually, he could care less about being single. He wasn't (he is) that desperate to want a relationship. Sure, he may have a small (huge) crush on someone from work, but that was all there is to it.

There was nothing wrong with him, actually. He's just lonely. Or maybe he was influenced, which resulted in him feeling lonely.

So, what was his problem, exactly?

Definitely not money. It's not like he's rich, Elon Musk kind of rich. Donghyuck didn't need that much to feel contented. His job's salary can pay his bills and still has more than enough to buy whatever he wants. Honestly, if you ask him, he can buy the cheapest yacht on a random Sunday morning. If, that is, he is bored enough to do so. However, that was not his type of entertainment when bored.

"Adopt, Donghyuck." A voice on the phone suggested.

Getting out of the cab after paying, Donghyuck went inside his apartment building and took the stairs to get to his unit on the third floor. "I'm thinking about it, Chenle."

Zhong Chenle. The very person on top of his list as to why Donghyuck dreaded being lonely. Chenle got married to a childhood friend he got separated with and met again during college. Aside the perfect as fuck relationship he has with his husband, Donghyuck also envied how loving and affectionate they are as a family. His friend is the main reason why he loves kids.

They have a son that Donghyuck adored and would always spoil whatever he wanted.

"Can I take Jiro out tomorrow?" Donghyuck asked with a pout.

Chenle heaved a sigh over the phone. "No, Hyuck. He's going to play video games with Jisung tomorrow."

"The day after tomorrow?"

"We'll go to an amusement park."

Donghyuck let out an excited gasp. "Can I join? I can look after Jiro while you and Jisung have fun!"

There was silence on the line for a couple of seconds before Chenle spoke with guilt and annoyance mixed in his tone. "Donghyuck, it's our family day."

He adored kids. At this point, Donghyuck wanted to have one. It's just that, the thought of gathering and processing the papers for adoption was not his cup of tea. Donghyuck was too lazy to do a lot.

The easiest solution he could think of to curb his loneliness was to play with his friend's kid.

Not like Chenle was against it nor hated it. Sometimes, it's just a bit too much that at some point in the past, their son once stayed at Donghyuck's apartment for a whole week. Being spoiled with clothes, video games, toys, and even his favorite snack. Chenle was more than glad to see how loved his son is with the people around him— but he wanted his kid to grow up as his child and not a little boy that Donghyuck always spoils.
