Marina Wing-Child

Chapter 8

Marina gathered some more firewood, to make the fire last longer, and some grass, to make the smell of meat in the smoke regular, for the fire.

Since the Shadow squirrel incident, Mark, Marina, and Reina had all sworn to never tell anyone what had happened and also both girls told Mark everything that Marina's mom had told Marina about the Shadow People.

They also made him swear not to tell anyone about those people cause everyone says that they are a legend.

A twig snapped in the distance, pulling herself out of her thoughts and another one sounded right behind her.

Quickly, she takes out her knife and spins around to see herself holding a knife to Jericho's throat as he held his hands up in surrender with himself going pale white.

"What are you doing here Jericho?" Marina asked while taking the knife from his throat and putting it back into her wrist sheath.

"Just wanted to help you with gathering the firewood sis," Jericho replied while his color returned to normal and his breathing became normal.

"Why don't you help any of the rest of the family on this trip?" she asked as she gathered the firewood and grass that she dropped earlier.

"Mark is being a pain in the butt again and trying to make me do things his way when apparently he doesn't know how to throw a knife nor fight at all!!" whined her brother as he helped her gather it before placing it into her arms.

"Well we did try to train him, but he was just to lazy to even do it. I guess since Andon took sickness he has been a little on edge," explained Marina as she headed farther and farther into the forest too look for some more firewood.

Jericho stiffled in a chucke and instead said "I think that will be enough to last us until we need to use some more. Let's head back to camp."

She agreed with him cause this part of the forest just seemed to grow darker and darker by the minute but she didn't want to admit her fear to him at all.

Marina always had to be the older sibling in the family but Mark and Andon always acted like they had the upper hand.

But since Andon and Marina were paired together and merged their minds, Andon became more of the role model to the boys while Marina simply became a role model for her best friend.

Taking in a deep breath, Marina headed back toward the camp, with Jericho, and arranged the firewood on top of the old charred ones, that were used by Reina, and placed the grass over the logs by using them in a one layer and that was enough.

Putting the rest away to save for later, Marina headed over to where her weapons were and sharpened them cause it was her watch right now.

Her mother went over to where her daughter sat and smiled at her, while holding baby Zepher, saying "I am really proud of you my darling daughter."

Marina smiled at her mother and nodded her head in acceptance of her praise, before heading out to where the tree was to relieve her father and allow him to go and cook breakfast that she, Reina, and Mark had caught.

Her father smiled and left her to look around for any suspicious activity.

Turns out that her mother went and told her father and, in turn, her father had organized a watch to make sure that no one of The Shadow People bother them.

So far, nothing has ever happened but one cannot be on edge if they have a feeling that something is suppose to happen.

They had wings to use, but some of their kids couldn't fly without theirs and Andon was sick so it would take a few kids to even lift him.
