Kristen's pov

I was staying with Noah at his house, he was going through some things. He overheard his mom and dad talking and they think his dad is sick again, with something different. He heard his mom say something about liver cancer from drinking. His parents haven't said anything to him and Jerrah yet, but they were having a 'mandatory family dinner' they rarely ever ate together unless something was up. He wanted me to stay for dinner but I figured it wasn't my place.

Noah's pov

Kristen just left and I was helping my mom with dinner. We were having chicken, green beans, and mashed potatoes. My mom goes all out when we all sit together to eat. She's a good cook it's just a hassle for her. Dinner was almost done so Jerrah and I sat the table. Ever since we had sex it's been really awkward. She wants more but I don't, it's not even my sister it's just she's bad in bed. My mom yelled that she was read and we all sat down while she placed the food in the middle of the table. We prayed and started to eat. The table was silent for a while until Jerrah spoke up.

"Okay so what is this about?"she asked taking a sip of her water.
Again the table was silent.
"You're dad is sick, with something different this time, it's liver cancer." She paused. "We are getting him checked into the hospital because it's getting worse and he needs to get a liver, we paid to get moved up on the list so he might be getting his surgery. We told your school about the situation and your attendance may vary depending on the surgery."
"I love you dad." I said looking towards him and noticed he had a tear coming down his cheek into his beard.

He didn't respond. The rest of dinner was quiet, everyone was thinking about everything. I knew how this would work; my dad would brush it off and say it's not anything to worry about and my mom would go crazy, making Jerrah upset. Last time she was really depressed and started taking pills and doing drugs and basically going wild. This I knew would tear me apart and trying to talk to me on a emotional level would be the equivalent to talking to a brick wall. Kristen was there though, throughout all the pain. She never left my side. After dinner I immediately told her everything on FaceTime. We both cried, my dad and her always got along very good and she knew how to make him laugh. He always liked her. He was getting checked in tomorrow and we were going to all stay there for a week then Jerrah and I would have to come back and stay for school, I knew Jerrah would want to have parties and shit that I'd have to clean up. Kristen was going to come after school to help and give Jerrah and I our things we missed so we wouldn't be behind.

We all picked our things knowing we would be there for five days. I didn't sleep much at all. I tossed and turned to the point where I just sat in bed and watched Netflix till the sun came up and it was time to leave. I had packed mainly sweat pants, plain T-shirt's, headphones, and a book. I had to keep my mind off things while my dad would be laying on that hospital bed getting treatment. Most of the day I waited around trying not to look at my dad, he needed to get as much rest as possible. When I looked over at him all I could think about were the things that could happen to him.
