A/N: I'm having a small writer's block, so I just posted something. It's kind of pointless if you ask me - the chapter, but I didn't want to leave without nothing, so here it goes. I'm hoping to post a longer one as soon as I can.
Chapter 25 – Sort things out
I gulped down some lemonade after I had eaten chocolate chip cookies, and lay down on the blanket. I took a deep breath and sighed. I didn’t know the time, but we had been there for a couple of hours – maybe three. Normally, I would be extremely tired at that time, but I didn’t feel like sleeping, then.
Jace joined me on the star watch. His shoulder brushed gently against mine as he lay down, following my lead. I felt his eyes on me, and truth to be told, the feeling I got was unimaginably good and warm.
“I don’t want to ruin the moment, but-“ he started silently, still looking at me, not feeling ashamed – and he shouldn’t have felt ashamed.
“Then don’t,” I responded quietly, continuing staring at the sky, how the moon was sheltered behind clouds.
“It’s late,” he said, like my words hadn’t mattered. He bit his lip and turned his eyes to the stars.
“I don’t care,” I said.
“Why?” he sounded confused, like he couldn’t believe what I was saying.
“Because it’s nice here,” I explained, “I don’t want to leave.”
He slid his hand out, his fingers searching for mine. We entwined our hands, I turned my head to look at him and saw him smile, so I smiled, too.
“Thank you for walking me here,” I thanked him as I reached the front door of Jenna’s house. He nodded with a smile. “I had a great time.” I opened the door, but with quick movement, he shut it and pressed me against it. I felt his warm lips on mine. A moment later, he backed away.
“See you at school,” he said as he started to walk away. I waved, briefly, and entered the house. A smiling face was staring at me.
“Fuck!” I jumped. “Don’t scare me like that!” I gently pushed Jenna away and took my shoes off.
“So, how was it, lovebirds?” she squeaked, and glanced behind my shoulder. The door was still hanging open. Her eyes widened. “Jace?” Then, she looked at me. “You?” Jenna shook her head. “I must be dreaming…then again. He sort of had a crush on you, anyways.”
“I’m tired, can we not do this now?” I asked, raising my brow. Then lifted my hand to cover up the yawn.
“Fine,” she rolled her eyes. “Just so know, you have the best memories of it, now.” Her words faded away, I hopped on the couch and closed my eyes. Seconds later, I was sleeping. I bet Jenna was swearing like an old man because I didn’t tell her anything about the date that night, and the next day, I didn’t wake up until one o’clock in the afternoon.
When I opened my eyes, she was staring at me, holding a cup of coffee. “Tell me,” she insisted.
“Holy mama, let the girl wake up,” I breathed out with my eyes closed. Then, I bore to open one eye, but she hadn’t moved. “Ugh, fine. Just let me…adjust with the situation first. I’m gonna see what I can do to remove this invisible pillow from my face, okay? I’ll be back in a sec.”
So I told her about the date, ad she seemed more excited than I was about it. She asked me if there was going to be a second one, but honestly, I didn’t know. Maybe…maybe Jace hadn’t meant the date and it was just a joke, a bet. Did I want a second date? Probably, but I was still worried about what happened between me and Howard. I was starting to regret those kisses with Jace. Had I really wanted them in the first place? I don’t know, everything was a big mess, and I was the leader of the mess, the creator, also.
One thing I knew, was that I had to sort things out.
