As soon as Imelda woke up, she was back to work, and she stayed that way for the next two months. Ernesto had somehow convinced Héctor to go two straight days without visiting Imelda, and when he finally did go to see her, he discovered she had only eaten a single grape and only slept for three hours in the time he was gone. After that, he decided to check in on her once or twice a day.
The time before the wedding didn't seem long enough to Imelda. In her mind, everything had to be perfect. The week before the wedding, Imelda's family all came to Santa Cecilia for rehearsals. Quite a few of those family members fell victim to Imelda's shoes if they forgot what to say or if they didn't do something quite right.
Despite her stress, Imelda made sure to keep making time for the twins. She always sat with them while they ate their dinner, even though she usually was doing something wedding related instead of eating.
The night before the wedding, Imelda still felt like there were a million things to do. Héctor wanted to be with her, but Ernesto claimed he wanted to spend Héctor's last night before the wedding with him, so he did the next best thing and left a note on her nightstand.
"Mi amor,
I know you're worrying right now. it's all going to be okay. I know you don't like to ask people to help you, so I did it for you. Don't you dare tell your family to stop helping you. Instead, make sure you eat dinner and go to bed at a reasonable time. And no, 1 AM is not a reasonable time. I love you so much.
-Héctor."
Imelda rolled her eyes. She couldn't help but think he might be right. After all, she was exhausted. Imelda went downstairs and ate a full meal for the first time in a while. Then she took a shower before going to bed.

"Imelda! Imelda! Wake up!"
Imelda rolled over groggily.
"Come on!" said Oscar, who was already in a suit. "You have to get ready!"
Imelda leaped out of her bed and ran downstairs, where her family had prepared breakfast. She ate quickly before going back upstairs to get ready, a few of her cousins following.
Imelda put on her dress, her cousins checking for any imperfections. After it was determined that the dress was perfect, her aunts joined the group and helped her get her hair ready.
Imelda's cousins and aunts were called downstairs to get in a carriage and go to the wedding, leaving Imelda alone for a minute. She felt surprisingly calm. Everyone she'd asked had talked about how nervous they were, but she didn't feel nervous at all.
"Imelda! Are you ready?" asked her mother, who was standing in the doorway. Imelda nodded. As she walked down the steps, the real nervousness set in. Although Imelda was one of the first of her friends to get married, she had heard stories from the few who had. She had one friend who's husband threw a wine glass at her when she burned dinner. And the stuff that happened after the wedding... Imelda preferred not to think about that.
Then she took a deep breath and reminded herself who she was marrying. This was Héctor, and Héctor really was the love of her life. Her mother sensed her nerves and squeezed her hand as they climbed into a carriage.
"It'll be alright, Imelda. Trust me."
Imelda didn't say anything the entire ride to the church. She honestly felt like she might throw up if she opened her mouth.
She got to the church and walked up the steps. Her mother entered the church, leaving Imelda outside with the wedding party. Music started playing, and the people in line ahead of her started moving. Imelda took a deep breath before following them in. Everyone looked at her. She couldn't make out anyone's face except Héctor's, who was staring at her. It reminded her of their first date, calming her nerves a bit.
"You look amazing," whispered Héctor when Imelda finally made it to the front of the room. Imelda smiled at him. He smiled back. During the ceremony, neither Imelda nor Héctor paid any attention to what was being said. They couldn't stop looking at and thinking about each other for even a second.
Soon, the ceremony was over, and Imelda and Héctor were kissing in front of the crowd. Imelda pretended the cheers weren't there and acted like it was just her and Héctor.
