A/N- Before we start, thank you for 100 reads! I've never ever had this many reads!
Imelda soon got the baby's room ready without any help from the twins, and it was ready two months early. Around that time, Héctor decided he had to stop working for a few months. He knew Ernesto wouldn't take the news well, so he decided to tell him in front of Imelda, knowing that Imelda, despite being seven months pregnant, could maybe take out Ernesto if she was armed with a shoe.
He chose to wait for Ernesto to come to him instead of seeking out Ernesto, which worked. After Héctor was a no-show, Ernesto showed up on his doorstep.
"Héctor, where were you today? We agreed to meet at eleven! It's five! Do you know how much money you've lost us?" Ernesto yelled. He was too angry at Héctor to notice Imelda, and he continued yelling. "You ruined my day! You promised you wouldn't abandon me for that puta Imelda and whatever you two are going to name that baby!"
Ernesto couldn't continue his rant, because Héctor was using Imelda's strategy and repeatedly hitting Ernesto with his shoe.
"Insult me all you want, Ernesto, but never, ever, say anything about Imelda again!" Héctor said, hitting him one more time with the shoe for good measure.
"You spend too much time with Imelda! Look at you, you're practically turning into her!" said Ernesto. That's when he noticed Imelda standing behind her husband, quite impressed at his technique.
"Imelda!" said Ernesto, smiling widely and fakely. "It's been a while! How have you been?"
Imelda continued to stare at Ernesto, giving him a seriously? look.
"How much did you hear?" asked Ernesto.
"Enough," said Imelda. Héctor, who still hadn't put his shoe back on, looked at Imelda.
"Should I hit him again?" he asked.
"No, I think you've done enough," said Imelda. "But good job! I wasn't aware you had it in you."
"Anyways, Ernesto, I was going to tell you nicely that I was going to take a break from working with you for a few months. But now, I don't know if I'll be working with you anymore. Leave!" Héctor said, slamming the door in Ernesto's face.
As soon as the door was shut, Héctor hugged Imelda. "He was wrong about you. You're the most amazing, perfect person I know."
Imelda laughed. "I very much appreciate you defending me, but when have I ever cared about any opinions Ernesto had?"
Héctor paused. "Good point. Still, I can't let anyone say anything about you."
"Well, if you must steal my defense plan, you've got to do it right. Next time, make sure to hit him a little harder," said Imelda, letting go of Héctor. "Your end goal needs to be to knock him over. I've done that once or twice."
Héctor smiled. "I'll make sure to take notes."

A week later, Ernesto showed up and asked to speak to Héctor outside. Imelda waited until Héctor came back inside.
"What happened?" asked Imelda.
"He said that he respected my decision, he was just upset that I was letting you take control of my life. That's an exact quote," said Héctor.
"Wait. Ernesto de la Cruz told you to stop letting me control your life? The same man who shows up on our doorstep every time that you don't show up at something he schedules?"
"Ridiculous, isn't it? I didn't hit him again, but I probably should have."
"I definitely would have," said Imelda.
"That's exactly what I thought," said Héctor. "But I didn't want to listen to him talk about how you were changing me or whatever else he would've tried, so I just came back inside. He said he'll be back every day until I decide to accept his apology."
"That will be extremely fun," said Imelda.
