Riley’s POV
Day 19- Thursday
When I awoke, Lindsay was up but Toby was still sleeping. We all slept outside next to the fire due to the fact the beds could hardly be called beds anymore. I sat up as well as I could, still in pain, underneath the blanket that was given to me.
“Hey! Riley’s awake!” said Lindsay quietly, crawling over to sit next to me, “And how are you feeling today?”
“A lot less sore.” I replied, “My leg feels okay but my arm is still pretty bad.”
“Poor kid.” She said as she softly took my arm into her hands. She examined my stitched up wound before tenderly placing a kiss on it; I couldn’t help but smile a bit. When she looked up, I brushed a loose strand of hair out of her face and placed a sweet kiss on her forehead.
“So,” she began, “do you think you could walk a short distance?”
“Depends,” I started, “how short?”
She shrugged, “Half a mile to the forest at the edge of the town.”
“That such a short distance!” I said sarcastically, “Why?”
“Just after you fell asleep, Toby told me an idea he had- to live in the forest. There’s a calm river and if the animals are somehow here, there should be lots in the forest.”
I nodded, “That seems reasonable and logical. I bet I could walk there with some help.”
Once Toby woke up, we packed some things such as: blankets, pillows, medicines, and the little food we had left into backpacks and headed towards the forest.
Toby supported me as best he could while Lindsay held most of the stuff. We did eventually make it there and establish a base. Lindsay had managed to find an old tent in her basement storage room that we could set up and stay in. She and Toby set that up and I rested in it for the remainder of the day.
