Riley’s POV

We started to walk to the shore and she said playfully, "You're such an idiot. I know you were just kidding."

I WAS just kidding. But if we were old enough, I would've REALLY asked her to marry me. However, to confirm what she was thinking, I smiled and nodded.

We had brought only one towel so I gave it to Lindsay. I just air-dried (shirtless and in my gross-looking shorts) as I walked around the woods with her.

Then I stopped to face her and said, "I had better start making Toby's gift. So bye for now." I placed my hand on her cheek as I kissed her nose. I brushed my thumb along her cheek a few times before we parted ways.

My plan for making a bow and arrows was to first gather my materials:

--- --- --- --- ---

•vines

•many strong but thin branches

•triangular-shaped rocks

•feathers

•the pocketknife

--- --- --- --- ---

First I went looking for the vines. I did find a some, they were quite low-hanging.

Then I went searching for the strong branches which weren't hard to locate. All I had to do was climb a tree; my arm did slow me down a bit tho. I needed live ones because dead ones would be dried out and brittle.

Thirdly, I scavenged the ground for triangular rocks. They were the hardest to uncover. I only found one sort of cone-shaped rock and another really pointy one. I figured really pointy would do pretty good for an arrowhead too.

I started to assemble the bow by tying the vine around one end of a branch and securing it, then the other. I tested it by holding the middle of the branch in one hand and the middle of the vine in the other, pulling back on the vine, and letting go. It worked pretty well. It also made a ‘boing’ sound when you let go.

Next I began to put together the arrow by first taking a branch and tying the rock to it with the vine. To finish it off, I...then I realized I forgot the feathers. I tracked down a goose I went on a literal wild goose chase to capture it. When I did, I stabbed my knife into it, killing it instantaneously. "There we go," I said to no one, "my arrow materials and dinner all in one!" ‘Man, I never thought I’d be doing this…’
