'What do you mean?' Ryan asks.
'Back in D.C, I was picked up by the local LEOs and Roy thought that I had gone to them to report him and so he confronted me and when I told him it was just a drug bust, he shot me three times and that explosion at the mall, it was him, or he paid someone to do it.' Emma replies.
'How'd you know that Roy is responsible for the mall explosion?'
'He came to my school that day you found me on the waterfront. He wanted me to do a deal tonight. That's why I was at the club. He said that if I didn't do it that I'd find myself in another explosion.' Emma tells him. She fiddles with the soda can in front of her. 'You're going to have to tell my dad about this, aren't you?' She adds.
'Yes.' Ryan nods. 'But how about we don't tell him everything just yet?' He suggests. 'He doesn't need to know what you're mixed up in. I'll just tell him we caught you at a nightclub, you had drugs on you but decided to release you without any charges as you were co-operative and it's your first offence.' He continues. 'If Greene finds out that your dad knows that he's recruiting you, things could end rather badly.'
'That I know.' Emma nods.
'I'll give you some time to sober up before I call your dad.' Ryan tells her, standing up. 'In the meantime, I'll go talk with my boss about what we could do about your situation with Roy.' He then walks out of the room.
.
An hour later, Ryan walks back into the room. Emma is still sitting at the table.
'Emma.' He starts. Emma looks up at him. 'Your dad's here.' Emma sighs and stands up.
'Time to face the music.' Emma says as she straightens her top.
'Before I take you to him, I've spoken to my boss about what we can do to help you out.' Ryan tells her. 'She was talking about having you on a wire when you meet with Roy so that we can nail him. Going by our sources, you're his go to when he wants deals done. We'll come by sometime in the next few days to discuss things further. You obviously can't say anything to your dad.' Emma nods. 'Let's go.' Emma follows Ryan out of the room and to the front desk where Owen is stood. He's wearing his scrubs. 'We haven't processed her. She was co-operative and it's her first offence so my boss has agreed to let her off.'
'Thanks, Ryan.' Owen nods.
'Stay out of trouble, Emma.' Ryan tells Emma before walking away. Owen looks at Emma.
'What the hell were you doing in a nightclub?' He asks, his hands on his hips. Emma stays silent. 'I had to leave work to come and get you.'
'I was just having a bit of fun.' Emma shrugs.
'Doing drugs and drinking in your condition is not fun, Emma.' Owen tells her. 'Your body still hasn't healed properly. You could have caused your brain to rebleed.'
'I'm fine.'
'This time.' Owen states. 'You're lucky.' He points at her. 'And you're lucky that they've let you off.' He looks at his phone. 'I have to get back to work. You're going to come with me.'
'I'm seventeen.'
'I don't care.' Owen shakes his head. 'You're grounded and after tonight, I can't trust you to be home by yourself. Let's go.' Emma sighs and follows Owen out.
.
Arriving at Grey-Sloan, Owen and Emma walk to one of the private one-call rooms. Owen hangs his coat up whilst Emma sits down on the bed. Owen turns around and faces her.
'I get off shift at eight tomorrow morning.' Owen informs her. 'You don't leave this room.'
'What if there's a fire?'
'Don't get cocky.' Owen warns her. 'You're in enough trouble as it is.' His pager then goes off so he looks at it. 'I have to go.' He tells her, looking back up. 'Stay.' He then rushes out of the room. After a few minutes, Emma takes her shoes off and lies down on the bed.
An hour later, Owen, Amelia and Teddy are sat in the cafeteria.
'Something's going on with Emma.' Owen tells them. 'We had that incident the other day with her walking out of school and then her outburst when she was brought back by Officer Tanner and then, today, about an hour ago, I had to pick her up from the police station.'
'What?!' Teddy exclaims. 'Emma? You had to pick Emma up from a police station?' She asks in disbelief.
'Yeah.' Owen nods.
'What did she do?' Amelia questions.
'PD did a breach on a nightclub as part of a new programme to reduce the number of drugs on the street. Emma was there. She was high and had drugs on her.' Owen tells them. 'Officer Tanner was able to speak to his boss and get Emma released without any charges.'
'Is everything okay with Emma?' Teddy queries. 'I would never have thought Emma would do drugs let alone get into trouble with the police.'
'She has been through a lot.' Owen nods. He then goes on to explain everything that has happened to Emma.
'Oh God.' Teddy puts her hand over her mouth.
'I'm going to reach out to Megan. See if she can come over here and talk to Emma.' Owen says. 'Emma always looked up to her when she was young.'
'Does she know that Megan was found?' Teddy questions.
'Yeah.' Owen nods. 'They've spoken over the phone and that but I think they need to see each other again face-to-face.'
'Do you want me to speak to her?' Amelia asks.
'No.' Owen shakes his head. 'I know that she knows the dangers of drugs so I don't want to lecture her and I don't want her biting your head off. That'll make her more likely to rebel even more.'
.
The next morning, at half eight, Owen walks into the on-call room and sees that Emma isn't in there. He hears the door open and turns around to see Emma holding a coffee cup.
'I thought I told you to stay in here.' He raises an eyebrow.
'I went to get a coffee. Chill.' Emma rolls her eyes.
'What has gotten into you lately?' Owen asks. 'You used to be so sweet. You would never have dared to talk back to me or your mom.'
'People change.' Emma replies. 'I changed. Deal with it.'
'Emma, you are throwing your life away!' Owen shouts.
'It was one time!' Emma shouts back.
'But it wasn't. Was it?' Owen challenges. 'Your first time getting caught, but not your first time doing drugs.' Emma stays silent. 'I thought so.' Emma walks further into the room and picks up her jacket. 'As soon as we get home, you go straight to your room. Let's go.' He motions for Emma to walk in front of him. 'Now!' Emma scowls and storms out of the room.
