My knees nearly buckled from the force of the downward swing. The water at my feet dissapeared in a ring around me before flooding back to replace itself. The dark scissors in my hands are small; putting me at a huge disadvantage against Rain's massive sword. From that one collision, I knew that Rain was not to be underestimated. Not only because of the force of the strike, but also because I know the consequences should I make even one mistake. I know what this weapon just inches in front of me, still blocked by the open pair of scissors in my hands, is capable of. And that is why I must have it.
I cannot hesitate. I cannot falter. I cannot even blink against this foe, for she will see it and take advantage of that momentary weakness. I separated my scissors from her sword to make distance. Before I could take two steps she had thrown her blade at me. It was too large to dodge to either side and it flew with pristine accuracy. Accuracy that has been built from the ground up after countless hours of killing and being killed.
The sword coming at me was large, but it was thrown at about the same speed as most other blades. I quickly spread the scissors apart and caught the blade in them. I planned to toss it back at rain, but it disappeared from my grasp before I could.
I didn't have time to see that as soon as the blade dissapeared, Rain was just a couple feet from me. I widened my eyes and gasped. She couldn't have moved that fast.... it was impossible she could have made that distance in such a short amount of time. But made that distance she did. I readied my small scissors for more melee combat.
The clanging of blades echoed in the room five times in just under a second. I defended against all five, never having had the chance to swing. She was too fast..... but I know how to be faster. I need to use my ability. I glance over to the crowd off eyes, staring silently at the showdown with looks of awe, fear, and excitement. I didn't like using my ability in front of others unless it was to make slight adjustments o my aim so I never missed. This is the first time I'll be going all out. I can do no less, otherwise this fight will be my last.
I threw my small scissors towards Rain who jumped back after our exchange. The scissors flew like an arrow, pointed straight at Rain, it was impossible for me to miss. And I didn't miss, but i didnt kill Rain with my single throw either. She deflected my scissors easily aside, just like the lizards did to the blades of some of the others. But just deflecting my scissors wasnt enough. I stopped them in mid air and sent them back at Rain, coming from a higher angle. She deflected them again with just her wrist. Again, I took control of them and sent them back. Yet again, Rain hit them out of the air with her sword.
This isn't working. Why isn't it working? Not one person in all my time here has ever deflected my blades. Not since Alexx gave me my unique ability. Nobody has done it, and yet this person standing calmly before me did it three times without even blinking. She's a monster. I grit my teeth together. Even if she is, she isnt invincible. I just need to go faster.
I looked at my scissors in the air for a moment. Yes. What makes scissors work? Two blades working together to cut one thing. I focused my will on the two halves of the scissors and broke them into two seperate blades. Each incredibly sharp and capable of killing. I smirked at my flash of genius. Let's see Rain block these tiny daggers moving faster than the eye can see. I then focused now onto Rain as my target. The two blades burst into movement with the sound of thunder. A sonic boom.
Two clinks. I couldn't believe it. She blocked the both of them? Whatever. I sent them back once more from two different directions. Two more clangs as Rain danced between them, swinging her sword at the blades. I need them to go faster. Clang. Clang. Clang. Clang. The noise of the two blades as Rain blocked then continued to grow faster. In seconds, Rain was in constant movement. She never misstepped and her entire body moved in fluid, perfect motions. She was dancing with death. I stood perfectly still. How could someone get this powerful? I can't even imagine- my thoughts were interrupted by the shock of Rain blocking one of the blades behind her back. She didnt even look at it.
I once more glanced to the statistics above Rain's head... Name:Rain,
Kills: ???, Cash: ???, Ability: Extended Slash. She has killed so many people, my eyes wouldnt be able to comprehend the vast number. But how many people she killed doesn't matter in this fight. What matters is what her ability is. I have never heard of "Extended Slash." Is it a unique ability like mine? Did Alexx give her a power before I captured him? I hope I can Kill Rain before i can find out.
I need my blades to go even faster. I focused all my will into them, the sound of thunder made my ears ache but I dared not be distracted from the woman dancing before me. The sound of clashing blades continued. I never moved from my spot and Rain continued to defend against my blades. I couldn't hold this up more much longer. I can feel my focus fading. It has a recharge if I overuse my ability. And I am getting dangerously close to that point. I was breathing heavily from the effort, but Rain was still calm and composed as ever. She wasnt even panicking as my blades came again and again from all sides around her. She simply danced out of the way and deflected them.
Both my blades fell to the ground. No... this can't be. I was panting, I fell to my knees to catch my breath. Rain stood. Watching me, her arms at her sides, her sword almost touching the shimmering water.
For the first time, Rain spoke. In a quiet but clear voice, her voice was much smoother than her skill would make you believe. "Let me give you a tip, warrior. The dance with death. To dance with death means to know your enemy's moves by instinct, not by waiting to see them. To dance with death is meant to know the enemy's sword and its speed without waiting to see it. Dancing with death means being one with the enemy.. Dancing with death means being committed to killing, committed with your heart and soul. You are not committed with either. That is why you will not win this fight."
She had given me just enough time to recover. I once more shot my blades towards her. A moment passed and two spots of blood appeared through Rain's tie-dye shirt, staining its colorful fabric a dark crimson. My scissors made impact on her back. "That is why you will not win this fight" turns out to be a blatant lie.
Rain looked down at her chest that had two scissor blades sticking out of it. She returned her gaze to me. I froze. Is.... she not dead yet? Rain began to move forwards. She sliced her sword into the air, droplets of water came off her sword and a wave of icy blue water rushed towards me. Extended Slash. I stood up and rolled out of its path, it whizzed by, narrowly missing my feet. Another wave was coming at me, I didn't trust that it was possible to block them with my scissors. I continued to dodge the waves as they came at me. Each was tilted diagonally, so that made it easy to duck underneath half of it. But they came at increasing speeds. Wave after wave came at me. They were relatively easy to dodge but they took no effort on Rain's part. She could keep this up all day until I made a mistake.
There was a break in the waves. I saw a white wave flying through the air towards the crowd of people watching. Screams filled the air as people were cut in half, arms and legs amputated. Those who were killed by Rain, Rain's sword, they do not return. They are dead forever. Nobody I really recognized was killed. Not that I would care. If I could just kill Rain, nothing else would matter. I split my scissors into two and sent them after Rain. It was extremely difficult to hold my focus and dodge her slashes at the same time, but I kept pushing onwards. I needed to win. I needed to obtain Rain's weapon.
I heard the sound of only one blade being deflected. The other hit its mark. The slashes stopped coming, leaving my vision clear of the white energy and able to see where Rain stood. My blade had struck her right in the heart. Relief flooded through me as the thrill of being so close to dying faded away. Rain fell backwards. Her purple eyes closed and her hair curled around her head and shouders. As wielder of a blade that kills permanently, she also dies permanently if she is killed. Her body dissapeared into nothingness; her pristinely shiny scimitar sank to the hilt into the ground.
I casually walked up to her sword, grabbed the hilt and pulled it easily out of the ground. I was surprised by how heavy it felt, Rain held it as if it was as light as paper and yet I feel as if I almost need to use both hands. I gave it a test swing. A white wave of energy flew from the blade and disappeared mere inches away from hitting the wall of the room. I see. The Extended Slash wasn't her ability, exactly, but a property of the blade itself.
I smiled at my prize. I could kill anyone permanently now. 2old doesn't stand a chance. I now have the power to be the absolute ruler of this realm. Anyone who disobeys or revolts dies. Simple as that. The only problem might be the other 3 blades that exist. If I am to rule unchallenged, I need to collect the other three. I addressed the crowd.
"All of you. This blade that I hold will permanently kill anyone who stands in its' path. I highly suggest you obey me. Otherwise the "severe consequences" I mention so often will not just be idle threats. With this blade we can finally destroy 2old's party once on for all. We can finally rule this realm for good." I paused to scan the faces of the dead silent crowd. They didn't seem as happy as I thought they would be, but I suppose I did just threaten their lives. They saw what this blade is capable of. They won't soon forget who holds their lives in the palm of her hand.
