The walk to 2old's camp wasn't nearly as long as the walk to Mebi's. Aissa and I were both mostly silent as we walked, neither letting their guard down fully in case the other decided to pull a fast one and betray the other. I'm sure she expects me to try something at some point, but I know that I won't. I have no reason to. I need 2old's help in order to defeat Mebi, and killing Aissa isn't the way to do it. Even if I did kill Aissa, I can't permanently kill her. She will just come back and learn not to trust me in the future. I need to be careful.
The tall, strongly built wooden walls of 2old's camp was now visible through the endless pines. It looked almost exactly like Mebi's camp. I could feel my heartbeat quickening in anticipation. I had to convince 2old. I had to. To fail here would most likely mean the death of many more people at Mebi's merciless hands. Because 2old needs information, and I am the only one willing to provide it.
I could hear faint chattering behind the walls. Oddly enough, there were no clashing of blades like in Mebi's camp. Nobody was fighting inside. No training? Interesting. I would've expected at least a few people urgent to fight each other. Sounds like they are simply enjoying each other's company. Aissa walked up to the door and cupped her hands around her mouth and shouted, "Hey! Open up!" I flinched at the sudden loudness of her voice after spending so long in silence. I blinked once I realized what I had just learned without even trying. I was caught off guard. Even if it was only a sound, flinching in this world could mean the difference between life and death. I need to be prepared for anything at any time. There is no telling when or where I might be attacked. Out of instinct, I looked behind me into the vast forest. There was nothing but trees, as always. I turned back around to face the door that had begun to shift open.
The door creaked on its hinges as the gate slowly opened. There were a few people welcoming Aissa back, and a few were looking at me suspiciously. Under so many unfamiliar eyes, I was slightly uncomfortable. But I refuse to let it show. I kept my head up as I followed Aissa into the camp. I saw 2old watching us enter after a few moments. He wasn't very difficult to spot, his sunglasses slightly reflecting the constant sunlight. There was never too much or too little sunshine. 2old didnt look happy, but he didn't look upset either. It was a little hard to tell when I couldn't see his eyes.
As Aissa led me around the center campfire to 2old, I could hear the footsteps of a few interested people behind us. They outnumber me by.... All of them to just me. I wouldn't stand a chance. I remembered how Rain deflected and dodged Mebi's scissor blades as they moved faster than the eye could follow. The Dance with Death. Perhaps if I learned, I could protect myself. But I don't know how it works... So I shouldn't be thinking of fantasies. I needed to think about how I was going to convince 2old that I'm an ally to him.
"Whose he?"
"Is he a new member?"
"Wait I think I saw him at Mebi's camp!"
"Really?"
The sound of curious voices surrounded me, but I kept my attention solely on 2old, who stood casually with his arms at his sides. He looked both intimidating and not at the same time. We stopped a few feet before 2old, his light voice, to a degree, silencing the gossip of the people who have come to watch.
"Hey. I saw you in Mebi's group, what are you here for?"
I took a deep breath as I ran through everything I wanted to discuss for the thousandth time. "I am here because I don't want to side with Mebi anymore." I said it simply and straightforward. I have nothing to hide and I have nothing to gain by hiding. Anything 2old asks, I will say the answer to. No more and no less.
2old rose and eyebrow. "You want to switch sides? May I ask why?"
I took yet another deep breath, "Just after.. you were killed, Mebi intended to kill Shar. To truly kill her. Forever." 2old eyebrow rose even higher as he asked.
"Kill her? With the scissors? I didn't die from them, they wouldn't have worked on Shar, either."
"No, not the scissors. Rain. The name of the blade we found is called Rain. I'm kinda sure you heard from Shar about its description. A scimitar that drips water. It's capable of killing someone forever."
2old's lips became a pout while he thought about what I was telling him. It didn't look like he was upset, just deep in thought. I'm sure he is also aware of the information I could provide him. He thought for a few seconds and said, "Let's go sit down, we are gonna be talking for a while." He walked a short distance to a bench underneath a cloth overhang to provide a little shade. I sat on the bench across from him so we were facing each other. I made sure I keep my knife sheathed and my hand off the hilt, however comforting gripping it might be.
The crowd dissipated once we sat down, they also knew it could take awhile. They will learn everything eventually. 2old leaned in, putting his elbows on his knees. He said in his own commanding yet friendly way, "Let me ask you this, you said Mebi intended to kill Shar. So she isn't dead?"
"Yes, Mebi intended to kill her but... let's say another person took her place. Someone from Mebi's side."
The old looking man before me scratched his chin as asked, "Shar is alive. That's good. She's a good fighter, I would hate to lose her." He didn't sound quite as relieved as I thought he would be about the news, but I didn't comment on it. At least he doesn't blame me for killing a few of his members.
He pointed a finger at me and said, "Though, you did kill a few of my members in that battle. Why should I not just turn you away right now?"
Nevermind. He does. "I have a couple reasons, actually. One of them being that Mebi killed one of her own members. She could do the same to any one of us next. And if she finds out I'm here, likelihood is that she will kill me. You're the best person to come to if I wanted to stop her."
2old rose his eyebrows and tilted his head slightly to the side. He knew it was a valid enough reason. He spoke,"So what's your other reason?" I glanced to my right to see a couple people watching us, though most of the others seemed preoccupied in their own business.
I made sure to keep my voice calm and clear. "I have information you need about Mebi and her blade. Inside information about her group."
2old smirked, "Information? What kind of information?"
"I guess you'll find out if you accept me into your group. Is it a deal?" I could feel his fiery gaze staring into my eyes, judging my character, looking for any hint of dishonesty or trickery. Finding none, he leaned back and extended his arm.
"Deal."
I shook his hand firmly. Now resting a little easier, I asked him. "What do you want to know?"
"Let's start with the problem at hand. Mebi and I can fight back and forth forever if need be. But that blade... what did you call it? Stor- no, Rain. What do you know about it?"
I took another deep breath as I prepared for the long explanation what I knew. "So, Mebi took all of us to this place in the middle of nowhere, off into the forest a couple hours walk away from her camp. It looked like a giant brick cube with two huge doors on it." I saw a hint of surprise of 2old's face, but I kept going. "We went inside, down a bunch of stairs and entered a large room. Lizard creatures appeared. We killed them, and a person walked into the room. Her name was Rain, same as the sword. She fought Mebi and lost, and Mebi picked up Rain's sword and now owns it."
2old looked at me curiously, "A brick cube with two doors? I've found two places that match that description a long time ago. I never went inside them, I figured they were empty rooms like the rest of the buildings in this world. I pushed on the doors but they held firm."
2old found two other dungeons? Could that mean there is more than one blade like Rain? A sword that can kill forever? If there is another sword, likelihood is that it might be protected by someone just as skilled as Rain was. I gulped at the thought of fighting such a powerful foe on my own. Perhaps 2old could handle it.. after all, he and Mebi fought on relatively equal grounds until she snuck a knife through his onslaught.
"Two? Does that mean there are more weapons?"
2old rubbed the back of his neck thoughtfully. "Only one way to find out, I suppose." He groaned as he stood up from the hard bench. He stretched his arms high over his head and called. "Sea! Gymsie! Come here for a second!"
Three girls stood up from their place around the fire and looked curiously at 2old as they came closer. One had brown hair, brown eyes. She had a mask that was pulled down to rest around her neck like a light scarf. She wore a light blue tank top and pants that faded to black as they went lower. The girl to her right was blonde, she was wearing all black. A long sleeves shirt that expose a bit of her stomach and black short shorts. She also had some nice black leather boots. Her eyes sparkled with curiosity, but also a hidden ferocity. The third girl who got up a moment after the first two had pink hair tied into a ponytail. camouflage overalls and a white undershirt is what she wore. It didn't take long for 2old to notice the third girl.
"Wonder, I am about ten percent sure I didn't call your name, but I'm not complaining."
The girl in the black outfit commented,"Wonder follows me around like a lost puppy."
"What? I do not! It's called being friends, Gym!"
Both of them smiled at their mini-argument. Seems like they like to mess around alot with each other. The girl to the left could only be Sea. She was also smiling watching the exchange.
2old didn't waste any time, however. "Alright. Make sure everyone gets ready. We are going somewhere."
Sea didn't wait to ask,"Oooh somewhere? What kind of somewhere? Is it a fun somewhere?"
2old smirked and replied, "I suppose it could be. You'll have to wait and see. You haven't been there before." He then paced a few feet away before he turned back around to face them. "Also, please welcome Butter, here, into the group. He is a new member." He turned around once more and stalked off to brood in his thoughts.
"Welcome!" Wonder and Gym said at the same time, almost merging their voices into one.
"Welcome, Butter!" Sea said smiling. At least it looks like they don't remember me from the battle. Probably better that they don't, otherwise they could hold a grudge. Unless they were snooping on the conversation between 2old and I, I'm just a random new member to them. I should act the part.
"Hey! Glad to be here. I heard some rumors about this group and figured I'd join."
Gym took a step closer, "How many kills do have?"
Already asking how many people I've killed? Well. I can't blame her, that seems to be all there is to this world. Endless killing. Except now that Mebi has Rain's sword, it isn't endless.
"Last I checked with the shopkeeper, I had about five hundred."
"Really? Only five hundred? Haha I have about eighty thousand. We are gonna have to teach you a few things."
I smiled politely, "I look forward to it."
Sea took a step forward beside Gym, "You were talking to 2old earlier, right? Do you know where we are going?"
I took a moment before I answer. "Yes, I believe I do."
"Where?"
I stared calmly at her eyes. "We are going to a dungeon."_________________________________________
