It has been a few hours since Mebi defeated Rain. We had all went back to camp. I decided to continue on towards the valley alone. I remember the way back. I need something to distract me from thinking about Mebi's ambitions. She wants to rule this world? With an iron fist. Any who oppose her, dies forever at the sharp end of her weapon. I know she isn’t bluffing because Rain never returned. Her last words kept echoing through my mind.

“The dance with death means being committed to killing, committed with your heart and soul. You are not committed with either.”

Those words of advice are words I will never forget. Advice such as that coming from such an experienced warrior is a rare treat indeed. I almost wanted to ask her for more, but I didn’t want to intrude upon the battle between her and Mebi. I couldn't wrap my head around the way Rain moved to dodge and block attacks I couldn't even see. Her movements proved her words about knowing what your opponent is going to do before you see it.
Those words of advice are words I will continue to strive to achieve. The dance with death. I must learn all of its secrets. The only way to do that is to train and practice. So that's what I'm going to do.
I had just finished climbing down the ramp near the vacant restaurant when knives were already being thrown in my direction. No time to even clear my mind of seeing someone truly die. A person stood off in the distance. They were walking towards me casually, throwing knives as they went. Another knife hit the ground a few feet to my right. Another flew way over my head. This guy is terrible at throwing.
I smirked to myself. Is this how Elon felt watching me throw my first knives? I lifted up my Magma Sword over my head. The man was walking in a perfectly straight line towards me. He was about midway between the pink truck and the roadblock that was to my left. I threw my blade and it hit him square in the chest. He let out an ear-piercing “OOF”, fell over and disappeared. I completely forgot that I still had the Oof ability. Anyway, who knew killing someone was so easy? I remember having a hard time just making my way to the store. Now I feel like I could do it with ease. Those lizards helped me grow more than I thought.
I continued onward into the shop, I saw the man behind the counter was still there. He looked the same as always. The man opened his mouth with a loud, deep voice.
“Welcome back. Buttermanz! How may I be of service?”
I looked at him. Perhaps I could get a more useful ability to help me train. “How much money do I have, now?”
“You have exactly 4091.”
“What abilities can I buy with it?”
“You can buy… Anti-gravity, Sonic, Horizontal, Ghost, Ghost Knife, Double, Teleport-to-kill, Force Field, Money, Knife Rain, Bounce, and Explosion.”
“Wow that's a lot. What does Force Field do?”
“When you kill someone, you become invincible for 4 seconds.”
“Invincible? That seems pretty powerful.”
“It is, many people don't use it because they don't find themselves in situations where a less offensive ability actually helps.”
Temporary invincibility sounds nice. But now for the other ability that caught my attention.
“How about Explosion?”
“Ah yes, Explosion is quite popular. When you throw your knife and it hits a surface, it explodes, destroying anyone near it.”
Now the question is, do I want a powerful offense or a powerful defense? If I can aim, even just decently well, the force field will come in handy on many occasions. But explosion…. I just need to get my knife near my opponent and they will die. But 4 seconds of invincibility…. While fighting, that could make all the difference. I would just have to aim better than I would if I had explosion. Wait, he also mentioned something else.
“You said Ghost and Ghost knife right? What's the difference?”
The clerk rose an eyebrow. “Ah, the Ghost Knife ability allows your blades to go through walls and other blades. But the Ghost ability, works a little like the Force Field. When it touches blood, it turns you invisible and makes your movement 3 times faster for 4 seconds.”
Now that sounded like an ability I would like. To speed around unseen after I kill someone? That's what I want.
“I want to buy that one, the Ghost ability.”
“Can do, Buttermanz.” The clerk wiggled his large fingers and clapped.
“It is done. Anything else?”
“No, that'll be all, thanks.”
“My pleasure.”
I then exited the store. So when I kill someone, I essentially become a ghost. Awesome. To my left in the center of the roadblock circle, where I met Mebi, Adam, and TT, there were a couple people sword fighting. A third person walked out from in between a couple houses. Might as well get started. I threw my Magma sword at the person coming out of their hiding place. I missed and quickly threw a second one before they saw where the first one came from. This time I cut off his left arm and half of his torso.
Instantly, I felt lighter. I looked down at my feet to see i was completely transparent. Only the sword was partially visible. The rest of me was gone. I took a few steps forward and tripped. The sudden burst of speed I got caught me off guard. I was just able to stand up before I returned to normal again.
“Okay, that was weird….” I didn't have time for further comments as one of the two who were fighting before killed his opponent and turned to me. I sidestepped to the left and threw my knife at him, now prepared for the rush as I went. The world blurred around me as I suddenly sped forward. I sprinted at speeds that seemed to make the two knives that flew fast me look much slower. I continued toward a person in a black jacket with hair that looked strangely like bacon. He didn't even see me coming as my knife slid through his ribcage like butter. Just as my victim's body disappeared, I was again normal. So when I kill someone while in ghost mode, it doesn't reset the timer. It keeps going along the 4 seconds I got from killing the first person. So maybe if I wait to kill the next person until after I am out of ghost mode, I will have another 4 seconds to find another person….
My heart rate picked up by thinking of the possibilities. If I do it right, I could be in ghost mode almost perpetually. The only time I would be visible is for the split second in between timers. This could be fun.
More people began to show. So I gave chase. I killed person after person for hours. I died a number of times along the way. Mostly because of some guy who kept returning who threw three knives instead of one. He also seemed to know where I was even in ghost. He threw in my general direction, missing mostly, but he was good at dodging. Because of this, I often ran out of ghost time before I managed to kill him. I was getting used to this ghost ability. I learned that I didn't need to melee kill somebody in ghost. I could throw my knife and run at the same time, making it extremely difficult for someone to know where I was aiming or how I was moving for the moment my knife wasn't in my hand.
I could literally run circles around everyone. I can tell I was getting better as I went. Less knives missed, and less deaths as I kept going. I ducked under a knife coming at my head and threw a knife in return, yet another person falls to my blade. I raced back to the center of the roadblock circle. There I found a person I recognized standing there.
TT’s eyes widened when I popped back into my normal state.
“TT, what are you doing here?” I didn't sheath my knife just yet.
“Same reason as you, apparently. Training.” She flipped her straight black hair behind her shoulder. I chuckled and asked, “Do you want to continue where we left off last time?”
TT shrugged and whipped out her red sword. It looked alot like the Darkheart. She didn't give me time to make distance before she threw it at me. I swung upwards to deflect it, but it went through my Magma Sword, just like Ebi's darkheart did. My right arm exploded in agony as it was cut off. By now I was kind of used to the pain, but it still hurt like hell. I waited for the knife to finish me off to come. But it didn't. Holding my arm at the elbow, I looked up at TT. She was looking in the other direction, toward the restaurant. A few moments later, a person sprinted towards us around the corner.
“TT! Butter!”
I didn't recognize him, but his call sounded urgent. He breathlessly stopped in front of us. We let him catch his breath for a moment.
“What is it?” TT asked after letting him catch his breath.
“Scouts…spotted a… bunch of 2old's party… coming to the camp… get back there. They outnumber us. We need all the help we can get.” The man's stamina seemed to recover in the middle of his talking to us.
“Then let's go. Sorry, Butter, our duel will have to wait. Your arm will come back on the way there. We have no time to lose.”
The three of us ran around the corner and up the ramp. It was a 30 minute march to the camp. We can only hope we would get there in time. The thought of what Mebi might do to them granted me haste. I couldn't let her kill anyone, even if they were from a different group. They deserved to live. If she takes even one life, she forfeits her own.
