Exciting news!!!!!!!

I just won the 2nd place in Chicklit & Romance category in BREWING FLAIR AWARDS 2018!!!!!! 

Yippeeee I am so excited about this. This is my very first story and my very first placement of my story of any kind!!

It took me approximately five seconds to decide what to do next.

I quickly pressed call and waited till the phone rang.

Once

Twice

Thrice

Zach: Hello

I let out the breath I was holding unknowingly.

Me: Hey

There was a few seconds of silence. I didn't know what to say. I have wanted to hear his voice for so long.

And here I am, called him but,..

Zach: I didn't think you will call me.

He sounds surprised and his voice is so deep and rich. It gave me goosebumps and shivers from the side I am holding the phone.

Me: Yeah. I just....I am sorry I have been avoiding your calls Zach.

I suddenly felt so guilty for doing it to him. He seems so nice and okay just to hear me talk.

Zach: Mia there is no need to apologies. To me specially. I get it.

Me: I know you will, but I just have to tell you how sorry I am. I was just going through a time that nothing I did made sense.

Zach: I know. I talked to Uncle Sam a few times.

Me: Oh.

I didn't know what else to say. I just thought back to that time. I was terrible to Dad and Adam. I must have been such a mess to handle. I just lost all sense.

Zach: Are you alone on the beach?

I was startled back into the conversation.

Mia: Ya. Just having dinner. I didn't feel like staying in the house.

Zach is quiet for some time. I thought there is something wrong with the line.

Mia: Zach you there?

Zach: Where is Adam? I thought he will be around. It's kind of late isn't it?

There is a note of disapproval and hesitation in his voice. The latter probably for Adam.

Ha! Men!

Me: I am alone and I am okay with it Zach. Adam is no longer in my life.

Zach: Whyy?

I rolled my eyes. Typical Zach, wanting to know all details.

Me: Me and Adam broke up awhile back. After Mom died he was just helping me and Dad around.

Zach: I can sense a but coming

Me: Yeah....I just couldn't give him what he wanted and he didn't want what I can give

My voice came out as a whisper.

I heard Zach sigh at the other end.

Mia: I am fine though seriously.

I thought I should just change the topic to something more cheerful.

Mia: There is something I wanted to tell you.

Zach: What is it?

Mia: I got together Moms Catering business and tonight was our first event!

Zach: Wow. How did it go?

I can feel his smile through the phone. I found myself grinning from ear to ear.

Mia: We did great. Plus we got another event booked right away. How awesome is that huh!

Zach: (laughing) That is indeed awesome Mia. Only you can do all this.

Hearing Zach laugh is like a balm to me. Suddenly I felt a lump in my throat and felt my eyes welling up with tears.

Zach must have sensed my mood switch.

Zach: Mia ...

Me: I just miss Mom so much! I miss Dad too.

Zach: I know. I miss them too, very much. Your Mom was wonderful to me. I couldn't have asked for a better set of parents.

Me: They are!

I felt the tears streaming down my eyes and onto my lap.

Zach: Shhhhhh Mia. Don't cry. I don't like hearing you cry.

I could hear a crack in his voice.

Me: I miss you too.....so much.

I whispered through my tears.

Zach: I miss you too Mia. I wish I can go and be with you.

There is so much frustration in his voice, that made me think that what he said earlier about unable to get off work was the truth.

Me: It's okay Zach. I know you have so many things to do over there. I am not holding anything against you.

Zach: It's not Okay Mia. I am trying everyday to find a faster way for me to be there.

Mia: Just come when you can Zach. I will be here. I am not going anywhere. Plus this catering thing has totally lifted up my spirits.

Zach: I am glad you thought of doing this. Aunty Mary wanted you to have a large share in her company. She would be very proud.

Mia: I know! I can't believe I did it. I keep thinking that. But I had a lot of support from the staff though.

Zach: If you are in doubt or if you need to talk to anyone just call me okay?

Mia: Zach its o....

Before I could finish Zach cut in.

Zach: Seriously Mia. I don't care the time of day or night. If I don't pick up text me. I will be here for you. I am not going to vanish from your life again. I promise you that.

I was quiet for awhile before taking a deep breath.

Me: Just come home Zach

I felt more tears falling and my voice thick with emotion.

Zach: I will Mia. Just give me sometime. I will figure this out.

He sounded almost pleading. Something you hear rarely from him. I guess he really is trying then.

Me: okay.

For now, that response was enough for me.
