The wide spread grin on your face was practically blinding as you plopped down at the spot in front of Ned and Peter, your lunch tray smacking loudly against the table. The boys paused mid-conversation, unable to make sense of the sudden smile on their friend's face.

"Okay... what's up with you?" Ned asked hesitantly. "You are usually grumpy during lunch. What's up?"

"You'll never believe what just happened to me!"

"What?" Ned and Peter asked at the same time.

You covered your mouth to stifle a giggle. "Jason Slater just asked me to come to his party tonight."

"Jason Slater?" Peter asked. "The senior?"

You nodded.

Ned's face fell. "I didn't know you liked Jason," he said.

"Well," you said sheepishly, not noticing the look on Ned's face, "I really don't. I don't know. But he came up to me and said I looked really pretty today and then I was like, sure, okay, but he was positive that I was at my prettiest today."

Ned narrowed his eyes. "Um. Isn't that demeaning?"

Peter nodded. "I think so."

"Like, I think you're pretty all the time!" Ned blurted.

Peter's head snapped to the right. He stared wide eyed at his friend before noticing the look of dread. He needed to do some damage control for Ned's sake.

"Yeah, it's sort of wrong for him to only think you look pretty one day. Most senior guys are like that, you know."

"A little," you said. You sighed when they blinked at you. "Okay, it's very demeaning. But whatever, right? He invited me, and that means you guys are coming too."

Peter sighed. "I don't know..."

You groaned. "Peter, come on! You've ditched us every day for months. When's this going to stop?"

"When the Stark internship stops," he said, shrugging. "I'm behind on a bunch of Spanish homework and on top of that, I gotta be out at the internship right out of school."

You pouted. "Fine." You glanced at Ned. "Please tell me you're not ditching me too."

When you looked at him like that, eyes pleading and lip pushed out in a sad pout, he couldn't even dream of saying no. You looked so dependent on him, and even though you weren't, he liked to believe that you needed him as much as he needed you.

"Yeah, I'll go. Seems like a cool time," he said, shrugging.

"Awesome! Thank you, thank you, thank you, Ned!" You stood up and picked up the tray still full of untouched food. "I'll meet you there at nine."

"Alright."

You walked off, an excited skip in your step. Peter waited until you were too far to hear to glare at Ned.

"I thought you wanted to keep your crush on her a secret!"

"I do," he said, "but she makes it so hard to sometimes. Do you really think she likes him? Jason Slater?"

Peter sighed. "I don't know, man."

Ned felt a little sick to his stomach. "I hope she doesn't," he muttered. He caught sight of Jason. He was staring at you like he'd never seen you before. "I don't like the way he looks at her."

Peter patted Ned's shoulder. "Me neither."

"That's why I want to go with her. What is she gets in trouble? We're her friends, Peter. Her guys. We are supposed to keep her safe from something happening to her!" Ned gasped. "What was that old scary movie? The one with the girl and the blood at prom?"
