"Liz's Halloween party is Saturday, dude, and you're seriously telling me that you have to stay home and study?" Ned asked his best friend, shaking his head in disappointment.

"Yeah," Peter said, shrugging. "I mean, I got a lot of homework to catch up on because of the, uh, the Stark internship." He looked at the stack of untouched homework assignments on top of his math book and frowned.

Ned sighed heavily. "Dude..."

"You're going with ___, anyway," Peter said. "I don't want to be a third wheel at a party. That's so lame."

"If you went, you could have a chance with Liz!" Ned said. "Find out what she's going as, accidentally twin with her or something-"

Peter gave his friend a weird look. "You're not twinning with ___ for Halloween, are you?"

"No," he said. "I think we're going as Han and Leia again, but this time it'll be awesome because now we're dating so we get to, like, do couples stuff with it." He smiled.

"I love you, Ned," Peter said mockingly, imitating your voice best he could. He dropped his voice, batting his eyelashes. "I know, ___."

Ned nodded, ignoring the jab. "Yeah, stuff like that," he said.

Peter rolled his eyes. "You guys are gross. Also, I think it's funny that she's still letting you force her into this."

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, ___ hates Star Wars," Peter said. "That's what she told me before, at least."

"Wait," Ned said, dumbfounded, "when did she say this? Since when does she hate Star Wars?"

Peter shrugged. "Since... I don't know, forever? Dude, she always falls asleep during Return of the Jedi."

"I didn't think that meant she hated it!" he said. He frowned and leaned back against the set of lockers. "Man, why does she insist on being Leia every year then?"

"Beats me. Maybe you should ask her," Peter replied.

"No, I-"

"Ned!"

Ned turned his head, his lips automatically turning upward into a smile just by seeing you. You walked over to him, grinning ear to ear. He switched all of his books over to one arm and wiped his now free hand against his jeans, preparing to hold your hand.

"Morning, babe," he said, holding his hand open.

You placed your palm against his and gripped his fingers. "Good morning. Guess what?"

"What?"

"I finally finished altering our costumes up a bit, so we are good to go for Saturday! I can't wait until you see the adjustments I did on your vest. I think you'll like it," you said proudly.

"That's great, babe," he gushed, squeezing your hand. "But, um, maybe we should be something other than Han and Leia this year." He winced a little as he said it, watching your smile disappear.

"Dude," Peter mumbled, looking away.

"Oh," you said. "Really? After I put all that work into the costumes, you want to be something else?"

"It's just-" He stopped, sighing. "Babe, I know you worked really hard and I am super proud of you, but it's just... we've dressed like Han and Leia every year since middle school - and I love that, but... babe, you don't like Star Wars."

"I mean... it's okay," you replied. You lifted a shoulder and gave a short shrug. You let go of Ned and sighed. "Look, we can talk about this later if you want, but I've already spent hours on these costumes." You gave a sort of sad smile and backed away. "Bye, Ned."
