Peter watched his sneakers walk through the hallway. The soles squeaked loudly against the tiles, making him cringe. The sound was incredibly amplified now that he was Spider-Man. It was one of the few things he hated about his new powers.

Peter was mostly grateful for the accident that had granted him the ability to lift a bus over his head and chase down a criminal without losing his breath. There were times when he wished he hasn't had any powers at all, like when he let the criminal go and ultimately sealed his uncle's fate, but he tried to look on the bright side of things.

Spider-Man gave him a ton of confidence but only if the mask was over his face. When he wasn't in the suit, he was just Peter Parker, band geek and science nerd, prime target for Flash Thompson's picking.

If only he had Spider-Man's confidence. If only he had his bravery. If only he could blend the two characters together and just survive high school.

Something - or someone - smacked against Peter's shoulder, sending him falling forward, his right shoulder slamming against the lockers. He landed on his side, backpack heavy against him, elbow throbbing.

Flash stood over him, hands in his pockets. He looked down at the boy and pulled the headphones off his head. "Whoops," he said, showing a signature grin. "Didn't see you there, Parker."

"S'okay," Peter mumbled, but Flash was already walking off. He sighed and shrugged out of his backpack, going to stand up. He stopped when a pair of clean white Converse appeared in front of him.

He looked up and his heart exploded in his chest. You stood there, eyebrows knitted in a tiny bit of concern and confusion. You clutched a pink binder to your chest and opened your perfectly glossed lips.

"Are you alright?" you asked.

"Yeah, just... just fell," he explained, cheeks red.

"I saw," you said. He blinked at you. You shifted on one foot and gestured to the locker behind him. "U-Uh... that's my locker," you explained.

"Oh. Oh." Peter hurriedly got up and stood there, gaping at you like an idiot.

You smiled softly and went to unlock your locker. "I'll see you in P.E.?" you asked.

"Y-Yeah," he replied. He cleared his throat. "Uh, yeah. Third period."

You nodded and laughed softly. "Yup... third period." You looked away, a giggle slipping out of your teeth. "I'll see you then, Peter."

"See you," he said, and he forced himself to walk backwards. He turned around and sighed heavily, running a hand through his hair.

How long had he had a crush on you? Probably only a couple of months, but wow... it felt like years. Years of useless pining. You were everything Peter wasn't; graceful, popular, perfect. With all of those things on top of a kind heart and a beautiful laugh, Peter fell hard.

The only one that knew about his crush was Ned, but he was sure it wasn't hard to tell. He had a fear and a feeling that even you knew. Not like you would ever say anything - you were just that nice.

Peter stopped at his locker and switched his backpack out for a few textbooks and a notebook. A tap on his shoulder made him look over to see a familiar face.

"Hey man," he mumbled.

Ned smiled. "Hey. Did you do the Biology homework?"

"Yeah," he said.

"It was so hard to finish," he groaned. "I fell asleep, like, three times last night just trying to get it done." He rubbed his face. "Plus we've got to run the track today in gym, so that sucks."
