Chapter 15: the devil's street

We've been sitting at the ice cream shop for a long time now and we're just having our own little conversation.

"Loretta Hey!" Conner says and stands up to hug her. Chasidy and I look and we see Loretta, Zeke and Cole.

"Oh hey guys, mind if we join y'all?" Cole asks.

"Actually we've been here for a really long time and we have to leave before they chase us out" I say to him.

"Perfect. I know a place where we can go to. If y'all are down." He says while eyeing us. I look at Chasidy and she just looks at me not sure of what to say.

"C'mon y'all trust me right?" Cole says.

"How far is this place?" I ask him.

He smiles.

"Not far. C'mon" he says and we get up and follow him.

"Hey guys" Zeke says.

"Hey" we both say.

"Where are y'all going to?" Zeke asks us.

"Cole says he knows a spot where we could chill." Chasidy says.

Zeke looks at Cole and he pulls him aside as they seem to be arguing about something. The only words I can hear is.

Safe
Dangerous
Private

I don't think much of it though. Suddenly they come back to us.

"What was that about?" Chasidy asks.

"Nothing, are y'all sure y'all wanna come with us though?" Zeke asks.

"Should we be worried?" Chasidy asks.

"Yeah, Zeke, should they be worried?" Cole asks Zeke, this whole thing just seems so suspicious if you ask me. I'm now doubting my decision to go.

He shakes his head no and we follow them to their car. Loretta and Conner decide that they are gonna go somewhere else. Loretta wants to show Conner around.

"Do not go back without us Conner" Chasidy says to him and he nods.

We get to their car and we both sit at the back of it.

It's getting a bit dark now and our parents will start calling, but we'll just say we are chilling by the beach. I cannot believe I'm actually doing this. My dad finds out, he's gonna kill me.

"Alright, somebody tell us where we going right now" Chasidy says.

"The devil's street" Zeke says and Chasidy and I look at each other. Me terrified as ever, her shocked and confused.

"What?" Chasidy asks.

"It's an illegal race track, make easy money in one night." Zeke explains.

"Why are you taking us there?" Chasidy asks.

"Why not, it's a fun place." Cole says.

"You guys just have to stick around us at all times, do not leave our sides. At least I'm not racing tonight so I'll be with y'all every single time. It's not a safe place, it's a place filled with drunk old horny men." Zeke says and we nod.

For some reason I'm excited to see this. I've never been to such before and I feel like I'm experiencing new things. I look at Chasidy and she looks at me. I smile and she smiles back.
