Evangeline

I lay on the beach, nothing on but a bikini, feeling the hot sun on my face. My hand on my now rounded stomach, feeling my beautiful babies inside. Thoughts of the abortion i had considered flew into my head, quickly surpassed by feelings of intense guilt. I couldn't have done that. Not to my boys.

4 months earlier

I watched him through the rear view mirror following me, trailing my car. My heart breaking more with every passing minute. Heavy sobs almost made me crash every time I thought about his face as he opened the letter I'd left for him.
"Evangeline!" He screamed after me as I swung my car into the multi story, grabbed my small bag and ran. Ran through the tunnel and through security. "Please Evangeline," Maybe if I just told him? Maybe he'd choose me. But that was a huge maybe and I wasn't prepared for maybe.

"Hey Sephy!" Opening my eyes I saw Beau running up and throwing herself down on the sun lounger beside me. I smiled, Beau was the only friend I'd made here in four months.
"Hey Beau, finally finished?" She nodded, taking a long sip from my mango smoothie.
"Yep! Rick took over about ten minutes ago but you know I fancy him so I stayed chatting for a while," she placed her hand on her heart and rolled her eyes making me chuckle, "you're looking particularly glowy today!"
"Why thank you," thanks boys. "I won't in a few months when they arrive! I'll look ragged!"
"You're bloody gorgeous Seph! Not even twins can ruin that,"
"Well I'm going to be a single mother to two newborn boys at the exact same time, speak to me then," I laughed again, pulling my hair out from under my neck and lying back down.
"Don't be ridiculous! We live in the same complex I'll be there alllll the time taking care of those beauties." I smiled again softly, was I making a huge mistake? Probably.
"Thanks Beau, so hows it going with Rick?"
"Not well," she sighed slumping back down, "but I've got a new interest! There was man on the beach earlier and by the grace of god he was an adonis himself,"
"Ooh yeah?"
"After a new baby daddy?" She giggled,
"Absolutely not! But if my babies are going to lose their aunt beau to a man he must be something special," she propped her self up onto her elbows with a frown,
"He'll have to accept me nephews and all, anyway! He had this amazing body, washboard abs, dark hair, green eyes, pearly smile. I'm in love," my heart skipped slightly, couldn't be.
"Did you get his number? Or maybe even a name?"
"No," she sighed again, "my mystery man stalked down the beach, looking for something I think. Anyway it's about time you start looking for someone new, don't you think?"
"No," I shook my head, "I don't want to love a single person ever again."

Gray

Three months earlier

I couldn't remember the last time I'd seen my brother but there he was. Wrapped around Alice. Didn't surprise me, as soon as Evangeline left he wasn't bothered. He was more bothered that she'd not said goodbye. Not that she'd gone. I'd followed her screaming her name through the airport, begging her to stay or at least say goodbye to me. It was me. The man she was completely in love with and that was in love with her. I hadn't been home in months, I'd moved into Evangelines apartment to be around her. A fully furnished home, is how they'd put it. Her bed still stood in the centre of the bedroom and all her clothes still in the wardrobe, I'd told them I'd clear them out myself for £50 off the rent. It had worked.
I sat on the white leather sofa with my head in my hands. It was grief.. grief for a loss that wasn't forever. But uncertainty felt worse than death.
"Aren't we going to talk about this?" She sat in front of me but I stared straight through her,
"Talk about what?"

I padded around like I knew where I was going or what I was doing. Wading through the water with the sand under my feet, feeling nothing. I tried to breathe in the sea air,
"Hey!" I yelled towards a tall man ,walking around holding a float and wearing what looked like a lifeguards uniform,
"Hey man? All okay?" I smiled as best I could before reaching into the pocket.
"I'm looking for my friend have you seen her?" He smiled a large smile that spread across his face, and hope rose within me.
"Yeah Persephone, she's around here somewhere! I saw her with Beau about ten minutes ago," Persephone? But Persephone was dead, that was my Evangeline.

Four months earlier

"Evangeline please!" I growled down the long hallway. She turned back briefly to look at me but turned away just as quickly. My heart was shattering. "Please, please don't leave me," I'd fallen to my knees, now sobbing into my hands.
"Stop it," a soft voice said from above me. Evangeline. I slowly looked up as she squatted down in front of me, taking my head in her hands her lips met mine.
"Don't do this," I took her hand in mine and kept a tight grip as she tried to pull away.
"I have to Gray. I love you," she whispered unable to find her voice throughout the tears.
"I love you my Evangeline,"

"Evangeline!" I yelled walking from one side of the beach to the other. But she was nowhere to be seen. It couldn't possibly be Persephone, could it?
