millie's pov

i hadn't seen finn for 2 weeks.
i trusted finn with my whole heart, but unfortunately after the incident, angela stopped trusting any boys with me.
she had good intentions, but unfortunately it did more harm than good.

5 days after i had gotten home from the meeting with the secretary at school, finn knocked on my window.

i left my bed to open it for him, smiling.
i lifted the handle, but it seemed to be stuck into place.
that's odd.
i lifted it again, but with more force.
it wouldn't budge.
i closely examined the glass. everything seemed to be in order- wait.
was that glue?
son of a bitçh, it was.
angela had glued my window shut.
i was trapped. isolated.
i picked up my phone and dialed finn's number.
the boy outside my window frowned, but picked up anyways.

"mills? what's wrong? are you okay?"
he asked, genuinely worried.

"finn. my window is glued shut."
i bit my chapped lips, that i hadn't applied my pretty cherry chapstick to for a few days.

"what?! why?"
finn exclaimed, fear mixed in with the dark galaxies in his eyes.

"any wild guesses?"
i groaned.

"millie. i just wanted to let you know- what am i trying to say. you're my best friend, my soulmate, my sister. i just.. well.. just.. i love yo-"

beep beep beep.

the hell? did he just say-
never mind. its not important right now.

finn tapped on my window, frowning.
i dialed his number again.

'iphone disconnected. please call phone service provider for more details, or apple support at (402) 766-8927'

what?! no. this can't be happening. god, no.

finn tapped on my window once more. i held my pointer finger up, signaling him to hold on a moment.

tears welled in my eyes, but i quickly wiped them away.

it'll be okay millie. there must be an explanation.

"angela..?"
i called.

my slightly chubby, red haired, vegan foster mother made her way to the stairwell, where i stood patiently.

"yes millie, what is it?"
an extremely fake smiled was plastered across her plump, heart shaped face.

"my phone service is bitching. i think there might be a problem—"

"oh, there's no problem, dear. teens who have cell phones are very exposed to danger in the outside world. there are so many different scenarios that could occur-"
she set her hand on her hips, obviously proud at accomplishing parenting skills.
