There is a knock at the door, I already know that it's Matt, but I still say, "Who is it?"

"Matt." Matthew answers.

"Come in."

"Hi." I say awkwardly.

"Hey." He replies just as awkward, adding a weak smile. "I'm not mad if that's what you think."

It  kind of pissed me off that he's not mad. I don't understand him, I need to understand him!

"Why not."

"Because, he's your friend."

I nod.

"But I still don't want you around him. I don't trust him." He runs his hand through his hair and sighs. "I'm sorry, I just feel like it was hard enough to get through to you already, now that I finally have, I don't want any barriers or distractions to get in the way. Okay?"

I nod awkwardly.

"Does that upset you?"

I honestly don't know how I feel. But I think I should answer.

"No." I answer.

"Mmkay good."

I nod. There is a quick moment of silence.

"I love you." He tells me.

I feel my cheeks burning with blood and my heart rate go up. I don't know what to do, other than say the first thing that comes to my mind.

"Thanks."

He wears a floppy smile. "Do you want me to leave?"

I shake my head. "No."

He walks around the couch, sits, grabs the remote, and pulls me closer to him. "Good."

It's so awkward to me and not to him at all. I wonder if he can feel my heart beating out my chest. This is the first time Matthew has ever had any physical affection to me and it makes me so nervous. This is the beginning, where he first gets the key to opening up my secrets, past, and all the bad things. This is the first step before gaining my trust so he can break me in the end.

But Matt told me, he would teach me to trust, this is my only way to find out if it really works.

"Matthew?" I mumble.

"Hmm?" He hums.

"I want to go to bed."

"Mmkay." He says unwrapping his arms from around me.

I stand to my feet and he grabs the blanket that usually lays on top of the sofa, and pulls it down, while staring at the TV.

"Goodnight." I tell him.

"Night sweetheart."

My heart races a little but not for long. I go down the hall. Me, being as lazy as I am, just unstraps my bra, pulls it out the sleeve of my shirt and takes off my pants. I go to turn off the light. Just as my hand comes in contact with the switch, I hear the sound of Matthew's laughter. I can hear the TV too with the sound of an audience laughter in the background too.

I sigh.

It makes me feel bad the Matthew's trying so hard to make this work, and I'm not trying at all. It makes me feel even worse. I think about how much I've pushed him away in the process.

"Matthew?" I call out to him.

"Yes?" He calls back.

"Will you come lay with me?"
