Chapter 27

I enter the hospital room and see Kole is sleeping and a nurse holding a trey by her bed. She stares at Kole as if she is debating something.

“Something wrong?" I ask.

“Oh!" She jumps “I didn't see you! And I just didn't know if I should wake her up, she's crying."

I just now notice the whimpers.

“Just touch her face." I tell the nurse.

She sits down the trey and touches her face. I wait for the small sounds to stop, but they don't.

“It's not working." The nurse tells me.

I walk over to the bed, my hand replaces the nurses on Kole's face, and slowly, the cries die down.

“Can you hand me that little pillow?" I ask pointing to the chair.

She does.

I move my hand, Kole subconsciously tries to grab it, but I put the pillow in place faster.

  “You must be the brother." The nurse assumes.

“Boyfriend." I correct.

She raises her eyebrows. “Then I assume she's just really good at sex."

What the hell? This is a nurse right?

I chuckle. “Actually, that hasn't happened."

The nurse chuckles in amusement. “Then why we're you last night not getting any sleep, and you're here again?"

“Does there have to be a reason?" I ask.

“Well, how old are you?"

“Seventeen."

“Well hell yeah there has to be a reason! This is the age where you run around cheating, drinking, and getting yourself mixed into more trouble. Not helping some girl sleep." She says.

I sigh.“Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to be that guy, to not care about the people who care about me, I would get more I wanted done, but I'm happy with this. I got all I need…" I sigh as I run my hand through my hair, “But I'm having trouble, with it trying to get away from me."

“Well you know hon', I don't know the story behind it, but she didn't do it to get away from you, she's just lost, she was just trying to get out of the scary unfamiliar place."

I sigh and nod. “Guess you're right… Can she leave tomorrow?"

“Honestly, you could leave right now."

I shake my head. “I'll let her sleep."

“You're a good guy, don't let that quality leave you." She then grabs the trey and walks out.

I sigh and walk around the bed to sit in the chair next to it.

Kole's POV

I wake up to see an even more tired version of Matt. He wears the same clothes from yesterday, and has a set of clothes in his lap.

He looks towards me, and holds out the clothes. “Go get dressed we can leave now."

We make it to his house safely. I had tried to drive because Matt looked so worn out, but it only made him angry and he snapped at me and said “I can fucking drive Kole!"

We walk up the porch and into the house, boxes filled his living room.

“All of your stuff is labeled except for the stuff Carter packed, he forgot to. We'll go get the rest of the your stuff later but I want  to go take a nap first."
