Matt's POV

I flip through the channels on the TV, I don't understand shit the people are saying. Kole is in the bathroom, setting some of her stuff up I think. There is a knock at the door. I get up to answer, only to meet Kole there. I give her a small smile, while she casually turns and opens the door.

“Hi, honey." My mom says giving us both a small wave, mocking the smile I just gave Kole. “Your brothers and sisters and me are going to have dinner downstairs, we were wondering if you would like to come."

“Oh, well," My mind searches for every excuse possible to turn her down. “Kole and I are going for a walk tonight."

Kole looks towards me, confused.

“You said you wanted to see the art, remember?" She really did say that so…

“Oh yeah." She nod. “…But I can wait till tomorrow, we'll come."

“Yeah?" My mom says grinning.

“Yeah." Kole smiles.

“Great, we're all meeting now so…"

“Yeah, cool, we'll be down in a minute."

“Okay, bye."

Kole shuts the door.

“Don't yell yet, she's still standing there." Kole warns me.

I nod and look out the peep hole to see my mom still standing there and smiling, I see her mouth the word “Yes!" and she finally walks away.

Kole's POV

“What the hell, Kole?!" He demands.

“You piss me off all the time, it was my turn." I say playfully walking to the bathroom again.

“What?!"

He just now notices I'm being playful.

“Kole, but why with this?!"

I sigh. “Matt, your mom is really nice, and I like your family too."

“You don't even know the whole story!"

“I know, and I don't want to push you or anything… I just…" I  sigh grabbing her toothbrush. “I don't know what to do." I mumble.

The toothbrush is ran under water and I grab the tube of paste.

“What do you mean?" He ask.

Flashback

“You did great today (Y/n)." My teacher tells me as we walk out the elementary school doors.

I had been taking night tutoring because I was failing very badly in math. It's hardly dark out, but it will be pitch black by the time I get home.

“Thanks. See you tomorrow." I say walking down the cement steps.

“Would you like a ride home? It looks like it's going to rain, dark and rain aren't a good combination."

I remember my dad throwing my mom against the wall the last time she didn't listen to him.

“N-no, I would rather not, thanks." I say quietly.

“(Y/n), wait."

I stand my ground looking up at him, he hadn't walked down the steps yet.

“Why isn't anyone ever here to pick you up this late?"

“I don't know." I shrug. “People don't like me much."
