KEITH

"Kogane, what the hell do you think you are doing? I gave you an order!"

"Fuck off Griffin. I'm going to save him, I don't give a damn about your orders!" I shouted in return.

I shook my arm free and ran through the course backwards.

Rain poured down blurring my vision. My hair clung to my neck and forehead, but I didn't care.

I made it back to swamp area where a cadet had gotten stuck.

Normally that would put him out of training and he'd fail, but I had enough of that.

If this were real I would go back for him. I would never leave my man behind.

I reached him and slunk into the mud.

"Gimme your hand!" I shouted as thunder and lightning clashed from above.

The flash of light illuminated the fear plain on his face.

He was frozen.

"Come on!" I shouted reaching for him. My hand grabbed his shoulder and he came to life.

The kid clasped a hand on my forearm as I dug my heels into the mud and pulled.

With curses and grunts I managed to drag him out.

We crawled onto the bank and lay in the mud catching our breaths.

"We need to move." I muttered rolling into my hands and knees.

"W-why did you come back? Y-you can be expelled." The kid shivered. He was completely soaked, and terrified.

"Just come on." I grunted grabbing him by the wrist.

I assisted him back through the course, but when we reached the end the rest if the squad was gone.

"Let's go." I spoke slinging my weapon over my shoulder. The younger cadet followed after me as I led the way through the grounds toward our base camp.

When we arrived I was greeted by a very angry Griffin and an even angrier drill sergeant.

After recieving an earful from the sergeant and getting expelled for defiance,I headed back to the bunks where Griffin was waiting for me.

"What the fuck Kogane?!" He shouted clearly pissed off. He stopped in front of me. His brown hair fell over his angry eyes.

He had been put in charge of our troop for this course, and because of my defiance he had received some backlash.

"I'm sorry Griffin, but I can't leave a man behind. If that's how you run your troop then-" I stopped as he grabbed my arm and dragged me back outside.

He slammed me against the wall and pinned me down by my shoulders.

"Goddammit Keith. We would have sent a rescue team, you completely compromised the mission. You could have gotten lost too and then I would have two missing cadets. Do you have any idea what you cost me?" Griffin wailed.

"James, I'm sorry you got in trouble, but I don't regret my decision." I glared at him.

"You're too reckless, and way too stubborn." He grumbled.
