~Narrator/Author POV~
Y/N could only really relax and tie her mop of hair up when she was at the racetracks. Her army of siblings never really cared for watching the races, so none of them came with her except the occasional older brother.
And that was the golden chance to get away from them. She bet only a little, and she had gotten real good at betting with her gut instinct.
Y/N was also oblivious to the men gawking at her. She had gotten used to men scoffing at her presence and yelling at her. She always grinned and shut them up as she won. Y/N was really oblivious to anyone looking at her other than that.
As she was making her way to betting, she smile at the newsboys she had seen here in occasion She didn't often buy papers but she noticed them in the streets a couple of times.
~Race's POV~"Wow, did ya see her?" Albert gawked at the girl.
"Back off Al, I is pretty sure that Race has a little crush on her," JoJo nudged a currently spaced out Race, bringing him back to the present.
Race blushed a deep crimson, even the tips of his ears, "Shut it JoJo. I just think she's interesting."
"Like how?"
"She always here...and I guess she's alright looking," Race lit his cigar."Betcha think she'd be better than alright looking under her clothes," JoJo and Albert teased, almost making Race spit out his cigar.
"I'll sock ya in the eye! Both of youse!!"
"Were just playing...unless you really do like her."
"You're gonna get it," Race pulled JoJo up by his collar, ready to hit him.Albert grabbed them and yanked them back to to where they were sitting. "Youse gonna draw attention! And that goil just waved to me."
Race sighed and resisted the urge to put his cigar out on Albert's shirt, but flicked ash on him instead.
~Y/N's POV~
The newsboys seemed to be having a little fight between the brunette and the boy with golden curls. I waved to the one with bright red hair who was rolling his eyes at them. He waved back before reaching up for the boys fighting.
I didn't sit, but rather lean up against the fence. I smile when my horse won, hearing some cheering and booing. The races closed up and I collected my winnings.
I counted my coins as I walked home, stopping to put in in my pocket. I suddenly tripped over my dress as I was preoccupied. I groan and pull myself up, only to see I ripped the material of my skirt.
"Hey, are youse alright," A voice startled me and I looked you to see a newsboy.
He extended his arm out and I took his hand to get up. "I'm fine," I sighed as I checked my knees for scraped.
The guy made a little gasp sound and turned on his heels. "I'm sorry to have seen youse so..,"
"Don't worry about it," I laughed as I brushed myself off.He chuckled uncomfortably, "You better be heading home."
"Yeah, uh, thanks. What's your name?"
"Racetrack Higgins, but people call me Race."
"What's your real name?"
"I saids you can call me Race."
"Then you can call me Scram."
"What?"
"Goodnight Higgins."
"Scram!"I laughed before taking off down the road.
Race didn't even realize what the female had did as it happened. "Wait, Scram...I mean you goil- nevermind." She had tricked him, but he found it exciting. He hadn't ever interacted with a girl like that. She was exciting.
