PUPPIES

So my golden retriever went into surprise labor tonight (we were originally going to drop her off at the family friend who's breeding her) and my family got to witness the miracle of life. Seriously, it's amazing.

(And before you all ask, THIS WAS PLANNED. If I had a nickel for every time someone looked at me strangely when I told them my dog was pregnant...I'd have quite a few dollars...)

It was pretty chaotic though. My dad was just reading on his bed when he heard a yipping sound from the dog bed. After frantically calling our friend (who I will call G), he settled down with the camera to take pictures of the process. Apparently, mother dogs know what to do, so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the show...

I, not knowing what was going on, let our other dog in the house and my dad promptly yelled to put him back out. When I came back, he said, "Well, we have puppies."

By that point, two had arrived and she was about ready to deliver number three. After calling my mother (she was out taking my siblings to karate; oddly enough, that's where I should have been, but I was feeling a bit sick), my dad got my other sister and she nearly died of cuteness. I have photographic proof.

We also FaceTimed my aunt and she sat through the first hour or so with us, until number six arrived.

After a crazy time of getting  G out here (he literally ran out to grab his stuff, spraining his ankle in the process, and drove all the way out here to set up a whelping box for her.), my dog has finally settled down to survey her army of mini-me's. xD

Sadly, one was born dead. We're not sure if it was a boy or girl, so my aunt and I decided to name it Gilbert-Anne. :(

So, with a grand total of eight (five boys and three girls), here are some pictures.

All the puppies are red

(Apologies for the bad lighting in the following pictures. We had to put them under a heating lamp.)

So yeah. Crazy night, right? xD

Sadly, they will be leaving in the morning so that G can take care of them and sell them. But we will definitely be visiting them as much as possible! :DDD

UPDATE: We actually have nine puppies! Another one was born after I went to bed; a boy. So the grand total is six boys and three girls. :D

Here are more pictures with better lighting. xD
